A small amount of water mutes the nose, brings out some floral and citrus notes on the palate, but kills the smoke and peat.  I’d rather have it neat.  I like Talisker, but am not sure it’s worth $70 a bottle.  It’s good, but not that good.  $59.99 would be a fair price.  It is a unique single malt, though.  I don’t expect to find another that tastes quite like it.
    • Nose
Salt air, pipe tobacco smoke, peat, and a bit of orange.
    • Taste
Cavendish pipe tobacco smoke, salt, rock and mineral, slight oak wood and nuttiness, with a dash of pepper.
    • Finish
Smooth, medium-length, with some peat, spiced oak, and pepper notes.

    Color: light brown, dark gold.
    Body: dense, oily.
Nose: light peat, iodine, mineral-salty motifs, cigarette ash, young wood smoked at the stake, pepper, sunflower oil, grapefruit, orange, mint chill, cherry leaves, milk chocolate, vanilla, hazelnuts, roasted chestnuts, dried apples, dried peach, malt-bread tones.
Taste: oily, enveloping and slightly sweet (vanilla, yellow apples, orange pulp) in just the first couple of seconds; then this momentary sweetness is washed away by a powerful and prolonged bitter wave (peat, burnt pieces of wood, smoke, pepper, orange peel), which, through sea salt, lime and iodine-nut tones, returns to the sweetness of dried fruits (dried apples and dried apricots). Salt and pepper dominate the taste, sweetness is relegated to the background.
Finish: above average, dryish. Pepper, seaweed, ink, iodine, roasted chestnuts, smoked bacon, prunes.
Bottom line: a malt for tough men, real "sea wolves", brutal, dry. It lacks some sophistication, diversity in the development of taste and aroma, it straightforwardly bends its line and generally does it well, so it deserves its 85 points.

    Love it.
    • Nose
Intense but not over-powered smoke with a hint of salt, reminds me of the ocean and sea breeze. Also a hint of dried fruit demonstrated behind the smoke.
    • Taste
Thick and smooth body. Oily. With great smoke and hints of dried fruits. Also presenting a salty character and ginger spice.
    • Finish
Long lasting smoke with hints of salt, dried fruits, and wood. Nutty in the background.
