A very nice malt. The great, almost overflowing fruit from the nose is well balanced by the spice present in the taste and ensures a nice balance. For only ten years this is a punchy and well aged whisky. Unfortunately it is - hopefully only temporarily - not available at the moment.
    • Nose
      88 88
It starts off slightly subdued with first impressions of ripe lemons and oranges and a slightly grassy touch. After a few moments in the glass, the malt opens and the citrus notes are joined by yellow and green juicy apples, such as Haribo apple rings. And everything is combined with a light fruit acidity and sweetness. The fruit flavors are outstanding. The fruit basket is now complemented by tropical fruits such as mango, papaya and pineapple. Light wood influences can be guessed in the background. All olfactory components are woven into a soft, almost creamy whole - really nice.
With a few drops of water it becomes even softer, more elegant. In addition to honeydew melon, there is now also some floral scent, such as violets, in the nose.

Nice rich, warming finish with dark chocolate and nuts and honey. The oak shows itself more now, it becomes slightly drier and a little more bitter. Medium to long finish.

Some love it some hate it. Is a bit dirty, the sherry maybe slightly sulphurious, but works well with the Ben Nevis distillate style. Solid, but different 10 yo not to everyones tastes. Works for me, though.

I just opened it, was a bit disappointed at first. Bit too sharp, seems more ABV than its 46%. But he keeps developing, the first time I see roasted sugar peanuts and a waffle stall in the scent, late herbs that were not there before, creamy and dry / sour in one glass - in short, a party. May I urge anyone who does not yet have this to lie in front of the local liquor store tomorrow morning and purchase a bottle of this stuff? Outrageous good. The 83 point rating is at least 4 points too low due to a few vinegar pisses. The bottle is empty now and I only have to buy one. Fixed cupboard guest. Top stuff for great price, underestimated masterpiece.

  9. Archer scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A 10yo with its own character, you should have had in your glass. Not a sociable companion, rather demanding and uncomfortable, with rough edges.
    • Nose
      85 85
Here the nose is not sent on vacation, but first dipped deep into musty cellar, muff and fermented fruit. Feels firm, waxy and meaty. Honeycomb, candle wax, orange peel, crushed hazelnuts and almonds. In addition to the muff and mold, there is always a not-so-not-so-fresh note, like the cellar window, which is a crack open and occasionally weakens the musty, damp cellar haze with a little fresh breeze.
(Smelled again after a sip: now a nice spice potpourri comes forward and blends in well).
    • Taste
      85 85
Nut nougat chocolate, orange jam, sweet grapes. Mild and muff are almost completely left on the nose. As in the nose, candle wax can also be seen on the tongue. The malt lays oily, creamy and fat on the tongue, lingers for a long time. Honey, caramel, menthol over time. Nutmeg, allspice, savory, pepper.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium in length and slightly dry, with a weakening spice note, orange peel, almonds, vanilla and a hint of cereals.

Honey, herbs, slightly musty, pine needles, after some time fruity with strawberries and blackberries, peach
    • Taste

Why didn’t I buy a second bottle while I had the chance... Now it is harder to find, and for much more money than I want to. It is a characterful whisky. Complex for its age. It shows a beautiful development in the glass, and for a long time (hours!). It can cope with water too, so there is much to play with.
    • Nose
      85 85
Aromatic. Cloves. Pepper corns. Lemon peel. Metallic. Light vanilla. Mineral note; gritty?
With water it is sweeter, softer aromatiic. Woodsap. Berries. Fresh herbs from the homegarden.
    • Taste
      87 87
A hot and bitter-sweet arrival. Develops towards sweet fruits, mango. Later on sweet oranges. Full.
With water the arrival improves to a nice steady sweetness of berries and softly enters the development to juicy, juicy citrusfruits. Beautiful bitters. Warming mouthfeel.
    • Finish
      86 86
The finish is medium to long and a continuation of the taste development: full and juicy.

    • Nose
      83 83
Fruity and a lot of citrus; Honey; a trace of nuts, which gets stronger with time; overall, but rather sweet
    • Taste
      90 90
powerful, fruity; then comes the barrel (spicy oak), nut; Leather; citrus; again leather, again citrus and dried fruits
I find the leather note in the taste dominant (which I think is good) after a long time in the mouth leaves this and after the hazelnut becomes clear
    • Finish
      92 92
Fruit, oak, cinnamon; Touch coffee, nuts again; Nut hangs longer; and then stands out clearly. For me absolutely intense hazelnut

  13. Vallado scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

The nose is a real blast, for 10 years big cinema! Taste and finish can not hold the level unfortunately, but overall better than I remembered it. Too bad that I only had one bottle of it ...
    • Nose
      90 90
"Forest walk after rain showers" - musty, humid-earthy, moss, resin, coniferous forest, "rain" (hard to describe ...), meadow herbs, gentle smoke, sweet and bacon
    • Taste
      84 84
peppery onset, (amazing for age and alcohol content) oily texture, sherryoten, herbs, spices, "greasy"
    • Finish
      85 85
      Long, warming, herbs, spicy-sweet

  14. Moses scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

It's not my age but the positive grades made me curious.
I have to say, "very good" standard for 10 years.
    • Nose
Fresh and fruity, slightly dry and almost soapy, it draws in the nose. Nutty or woody with notes of citrus vanilla.
    • Taste
Toffee caramel notes with strong vanilla. Feels rough but still very soft in the mouth. Light coffee note in transition.
    • Finish
Medium to a little longer, it goes there with roasted coffee on orange peel. It ends with caramel.
In my eyes, under the 10 year old bottles upper league!

  15. Totoro scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Even at first impression, this is well-sherried and, to say it in a word: heavy. Both sweet and somehow industrial. Cherries, marzipan, and wine gums on the nose, together with bouillon cubes and herbal notes (rosemary?).
In the mouth, the sweet fruitiness condenses to canned apricots and Lipton's peach iced tea. The alcohol (46%) is still perceptible and gives off a cooling, mentholated impression. Something steely creeps in as well, reminding me of tools in a metal workshop. Wood in the background. The finish oscillates between sweet and savory and is of medium length.
A unique whisky for sure, and from what I've heard, newer batches are getting better and better. Very characterful for a ten-year-old!

Such a rich, round and pleasant whisky. The first impression of dry old sherry is merely a disguise for all the good things it has to offer. Beautiful whisky! 87 points
    • Nose
Dry, old sherry and maybe somewhat closed and a bit one dimensional at first, but that changes quickly. Half a teaspoon of water and an inviting nose of sweet, ripe red fruits march to the front, accompanied by  grainy and salty tones
    • Taste
sweet and soft, dry at first, red fruit, butterscotch, nuts, some salt. Add water and the dry arrival vanishes to make room for a rich and round complexity, with sweet spices along the way.
    • Finish
rather long and pleasant: oily (nut oil), mouth coating. with the added water the saltiness is more prominent (although still mild and polite) with the nuts and spices at the end. on the front of the tong a bit of a sharp alcohol note hangs about.

  22. Calmar scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

I am absolutely delighted, the excellent beginning of the line, such basic malls and every distillery, very dense and saturated, is deep enough and complex for its 10 years, excellent balance, a harmonious combination of all the characteristic features of the base with the barrel derivatives (apparently kneading sherry and bourbon, sherry, for sure), bravo.
    • Nose
Open, moist, spicy oak, raisins, cappuccino, toffee, creamy confectionery notes, boiled condensed milk, branded sulfuric-mineral shades, Bengal lights, grindstone; metal and industrial motifs are harmoniously combined with sweet tones, pre-foliage, overripe fruits.
    • Taste
Dense, rich, sweet-oily, industrially-metallic notes, insecticide tones, raisins, spicy oak, exploding caramel, burned match heads
    • Finish
Spicy, sweet, sour-metallic, raisins, baklava, boiled condensed milk, dried apples.

What a delicious dram! Not particularly complex, but the taste is quite unique in being more fresh and orangey than other sherried whiskies I’ve tasted. Oh, and I love cinnamon. A personal favourite.
    • Nose
Burnt toffee and a little vanilla with orange zest, raisins, figs and nuts. A distinct note of cardamom and a hint of wintergreen. On top a gentle layer of peat smoke.
    • Taste
Very much brown sugar, dark chocolate and orange jam with a hint of cinnamon. Black pepper spiciness with a hint of peat develops with just a tiny hint of liquorice towards the finish.
    • Finish
Long and slightly dry. The orange jam turns into fresh oranges on the swallow with continuing chocolate and cinnamon tinged spice.

The old one is one of my favorite standard OA, great whisky for a fair € 40. The new one is similar in the nose, in the mouth then clearly different, but I like it just as well. Let's see if this is the "natural" batch variation or concept.
    • Nose
Comparison old (52941) vs. new (81735):
      something new is brighter
old: strong and full, clear sherry barrel, "dirty" sweet, nougat, orange marmalade, with soil, old wood and some dirty smoke, new: similar but drier, less sweet and dirty, the fruit fresher and more exotic (towards lime / passion fruit)
    • Taste
old: milk chocolate, nougat, nut, a little black pepper, earth, leather - strong in the mouth, fat, sweet, dirty, slightly scratchy, new: first creamy-oily with white chocolate and exotic-bitter fruit, lime, passion fruit, grapefruit, then more and more bitter, burned, drier
    • Finish
new: long, Haribo white, lots of white pepper, burnt bread roll, old: sweet and spicy, less spicy and bitter, creamier than the new one

  33. dRambo scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Nose: tart herbs, malt, vanilla, resin, oak, acid from the wood, behind it - a bit shy and hidden - spread out delicious exotic fruits - a few drops of water to release more oak and especially fruit salad Taste: Eichenholzmehl, herbs (thyme, mugwort, mint), creamy, subtly sweet, wood acid, exotic fruit, wax, vanilla, full-bodied, tart, light bitterness, tingling on the tongue - this comes at least partly from the wood, the Tingling lasts longer than the other fruity spicy finish Conclusion: wow fierce part for an original bottling at age 10, edgy, angular, special, and with a few drops of water in the nose with fantastic fruit notes, I like the taste but the nose is ahead. Compared to the doubly old UA bottlings that I've tried the last time, it does not have to hide when you take your time. Great PLV.

An entirely underrated malt, big-flavoured and muscular highland style,
    astonishingly complex for a 10-year-old.
It has been only recently that people have learned to appreciate how good this drop really is, but sadly enough, it has gone now...

On the nose I get a little Sherry first, something floral(maybe camomille) followed by a martime breeze with a hint of seaweed. There is also a slight citrus note that reminds me of Bitter Lemon. Some apricots appear after 10 minutes and the nose seems to be more balanced. With water; more citrus possibly bergamotte, fresher and fruitier. Taste: Sherry again, a little oak, well composed but far from complex, a little light which would improve with higher ABV I’m sure. There is a hint of musty warehouse, which I enjoy a lot, medium finnish getting dryer.

By Serge : Ben Nevis 10 yo (46%, OB, +/-2016)  Long time not tried this baby, if I’m not mistaken. The packaging is so reassuringly unchanged (when did Pétrus or Yquem last change their packaging?) but I remember older bottlings were rather ridden with caramel. It’s not always the case that you may ‘feel’ caramel, but in the latter case, you really could. But… Colour: gold. Earlier BN10 were really dark. Nose: fusel oil, paraffin, iron, and green walnuts, what’s not to enjoy? And then, eucalyptus, coal smoke, and raw malt, plus a touch of passion fruit that I had never found before. In Ben Nevis 10, that is.  Mouth: what’s the distance between Fort Williams and Campbeltown? Because there is a Springbankness to this, these fatty oils and waxes, this metallic leafiness, the coal tar… Now what’s not in Springbank are these curious chocolaty lemon biscuits and the triple-sec. All that makes this a singular malt whisky. Loud applause please! Finish: rather long, and rather orange-forward. Comments: I’m pretty amazed, Ben Nevis 10 is becoming a star! Let’s just hope they won’t do any silly rebranding/repackaging. SGP:551 - 87 points.

A simple and good drink, the only problem with which is that it is nothing to spare
    • Nose
Woodiness, Caramelized Orange, Brown Sugar, Dried Dark Fruit
    • Taste
In the flavor of wood, caramel, cocoa cake, a little spice - the taste is quite light, and the strength of alcohol does not show much
    • Finish
In reverberation chocolate candies, woodiness and a little spice

Very good this little Ben Nevis. I'm a fan of the distillery but objectively it's a nice entry-level.
    • Nose
Very fruity and easy, good power. On malt, liquid honey, and candied fruit. Some rather "Irish" sides in the nose. It's fresh and pleasant without pretension.

A barely known strong single malt, which can convince with a great spicy and beautifully integrated fruit notes. The other heavily limited single-cask 10-year-old from the "Forgotten Bottling" is then even more intense and complex.
    • Nose
First dark-dark tart chocolate dominates, after a while in the glass a nice vanilla sweetness and bright fruits like pear and mirabelles come to light. In addition a strong and spicy salt aroma, oak and a milder smoke mix, which gives the whole a strength and notes of sweet pipe tobacco.
    • Taste
All this is also reflected on the palate, as dominated above all the sweetness that sets the tart nose a nice surprising counterpoint. Combined with an oily spiciness, the oak barrel and a nice sherry note, warms.
    • Finish
a lot of warmth, bitter oak, a light fruit sweetness and later a bit of tart and sweet sherry stick a little longer in the back of the throat.

A wonderful allday dram for little money. That's the way whisky must be.
    • Nose
The nose is fresh and unobtrusive. Nougat chocolate and dark fruits, some lemon rind and fudge. Spicy-sweet. Very pleasant. After some time, a very modest-earthy Sherrynote is added.
    • Taste
Lively. First spicy-peppery, not yet fully grown. Some earth and oak. Then again nougat chocolate and fruit. Some leather and tobacco.
    • Finish
Mitellang, light oak bitterness, chocolate, fudge. And some oranges in the background.

Fine introducing to Ben Nevis, a pity that there are no further OB bottlings like an 18yo/21yo.
The Dram benefits from somewhat time and a drop of water, maybe the bottle will likely benefit from some time of oxydation too.

    Ben Nevis 10 46% WID: 52941 (undiluted)

Nose: nougat, oranges, some sulfur, chestnuts, butter crumble. Later also a few lemons.

Taste: At the beginning a bit watery, then it clearly increases and becomes sweeter and fuller. Quite creamy with nougat chocolate. Maybe also hazelnut, but without the bitter skin. The oranges are there too. Something sulfur.

Finish: Beautiful wood notes come quickly. slightly peppery, but not bitter. Oranges and sulfur remain. Altogether quite long.

Conclusion: I like him and think that he has a lot to offer for his 10 years. Only the entrance could be a bit stronger.

He develops some pleasant, chocolate flavors. In the overall impression it is something to malt and cereal - 11.03.2016
    • Nose
Malt, cereals, vanilla, chocolate, chocolate confectionery, vanilla, oak
    • Taste
Malty, sweet, very spicy, nut aromas, nut chocolate, black pepper that tingles on the tongue, hardly any bitterness
    • Finish
      medium

Nice standard bottling. Not very complex, but I like its full profile. One of the best sherried whiskies in its price class. 84/85.
    • Nose
The typical Ben Nevis fudge. Cherry, peach, orange and red apple.
    • Taste
Toffee, peach, cherry, apple and mint.
    • Finish
Caramel, cherry, peach, apple and mocha.

Really good whisky, for a standard 10yo, but a little bit expensive compared with other 10yo bottles.

Distinctive taste profile. Sherry profile, but with a wider taste range. Fruity. Also something medicinal and spicy. Tasty fresh accessible sherry whisky. The weaker point is that it happens quite young. He has some sharp points in the finish. That does not make it a topper.

    • Nose
      wood, sugar, caramel

young, on green fruits, cereals, board
    • Finish
same notes as in the nose

  65. Rom did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

Tasted blind. Woody nose, sweet and chocolatey. Always chocolate in the mouth, exhibits a sherry profile. Final on the coffee, with a rise of bitterness and alcohol. Whisky ok but not very sexy, lack of greed and / or sugar.

  66. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

An incredibly intense, full, strong malt, especially for a standard original bottling.
    • Nose
The nose is spicy, sweet sherry, a lot of spice, some maggi, even oak, but not very intrusive. Very compact, strong, I like that.
    • Taste
In the mouth it is sweet and strong, a lot of sherry, very spicy, intense, massive, it comes slightly bitter oak, some spices, but always accompanied by the spicy sherry notes.
    • Finish
The finish has a hint of sulfur, then a lot of sherry, slightly vinous, oak, a lot of spice. The whisky is very compact, definitely not filigree, it sounds like tart oak, sherry and tobacco.

secretive and somewhat inaccessible without water; still mysterious with water, but all the more enticing
    • Nose
complex and diverse; Box of chocolates; Pipe tobacco; Fruit in chocolate; distant sea spray
    • Taste
soft and full-bodied; Marzipan in dark chocolate; light, aromatic pipe smoke
    • Finish
exotic and eccentric; Perfume; Orange; Chocolate; Oak; cooled pipe; maritime and medical notes

    A great classic of speyside.
    • Nose
Strong, with hints of honey, warm spices and candied fruits (oranges, tangerines).
    • Taste
Full-bodied, thick and slightly oily, spicy with a touch of dark chocolate and unsweetened coffee, with always fruity notes of oranges and nuts that are the signature of the distillate.
    • Finish
Long, hot and fat with the pleasant influence of sherry.

Blind tasting: The noseiness reminds me of sherry keg-ripened Bunnahabhain. I once had a cask strength from Signatory, which was very similar. The "only" 45% confuse me something. Had I not known that, I would probably have estimated the alcohol content a bit higher, but I'm feeling sick anyway. I estimate the age at about 13 years. And I give the whisky 86 points. blind tasting
    • Nose
dry sherry, some pungent alcohol, musty, dried plums, raisins and any exotic spices
    • Taste
strong onset, first sweet, then getting drier, again the dark dried fruit, but this time a little "juicy", then sweet again. In terms of sweetness, this is a real chameleon. In the background is spicy oak.
    • Finish
Dark chocolate (75%), lots of oak, and again dry sherry, neatly long.

    • Nose
Cider, raisins, white chocolate. The cider flies and coffee aromas come to the fore. The longer he lingers in the glass, the more flavors develop and the more mature he looks.
    • Taste
First mild, then chilli with delicate sherry wood notes, coffee, some black tea, some oriental spices and overripe fruit.
    • Finish
Medium long with black tea, moldy wood and some fruit.

  77. The Macallan scored this whisky 73 points Connoisseur

I liked this one more then an independent from say: Signatory. Very enjoyable
    • Nose
Very fragrant and gentle with some wood spices, chocolate/vanillins and citrus notes
    • Taste
Firm but yet so smooth, lots of vanillins like, chocolate and toffee caramel like flavors
    • Finish
Drying with a citric some what smokey aftertaste

One dram note. Does not improve with water. Interesting, although somewhat unbalanced
    • Nose
Marmalade, spices, sour, peat and cereals.
    • Taste
Sweet marmalade, rye bread, somewhat sour pears, cereal and more spices. Adding water adds rough oak while removing the marmalade.
    • Finish
Drying with some black pepper. Medium long

  79. Magnus Hillman scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

    Rating interval 81-84
    • Nose
Dry grass and distant peat smoke. Complex spices and cereal appear.
    • Taste
Again spicy and crisp bread, soft peat smoke and bitter orange marmalade together with cracked black pepper and grain. This is a single malt and yet there is some grainy influences.

If I've tasted this blind I would probably have guessed a good quality blended whisky with high malt content.
    • Finish
The finish is short to medium, spicy and distant smoke.
