Bowmore 13 yo (2000/2014, High Spirits for Gluglu, 46%) Posted on 11 April 2015 by whiskyfacile Reply Next to the good Darkest we tasted a single cask, this time ex-bourbon, selected by Mauro Leoni for his very active Whisky Club Gluglu (in the series 'The Roots', this is the bottle dedicated to The Sixties Welfare) through the ineffable intermediation of great Nadi Fiori, the most elegant man of Italian biz whisky. We do not lose ourselves in chatter, we are in productive Lombard land: bent on turnover, we see the pale straw color and we pass to the tasting. N: a beautifully standard Bowmore, and naked the right, so as to allow the distillate to unfold all its peculiarities. A citrus full of verve, between a mighty lime and a lemon squeezed ... Candied, too? Bitter cocoa. Sea water foaming on the edge of the glass, and foamy foam on a slightly bitter tropical 'sweetness' (carambola, unripe pineapple). Then the peat, the mild but deep smoking, typical of Bowmore. A thread of powdered sugar. P: what a beautiful intensity, almost unexpected. It is confirmed as very citrus, and this dimension combines a truly integrated and pleasant sea water show. The smoke is growing (ash), but there is also a very 'classic' sweetness for this type of Islay: between sugar and tropical fruit (coconut, pineapple). It closes compostely on the bitter peat, acrid and vegetal ... F: ... and at the end we fall on a carpet of endless ash and sea water, with only fruity suggestions. Bowmore in his most limpid soul, naked as an actress of Brazzers but altogether more seductive than an actress of Brazzers. The Bowmore of these years (let's say from '98 onwards) have definitely improved compared to the immediately preceding period, with a marine and tropical riot that is perfectly confirmed here. 87/100 , and away towards a new adventure. Maybe, with an actress from Brazzers.
