This is a sweet one like a sticky toffee pudding but more syrupy sweet.
Plenty of fruit up front with a little mulled wine spice.
I really like this one, a very simple profile but it works so well,

Strong Sherry rises immediately. Pleasantly sweet, so that the saliva production is stimulated immediately. From time to time, a sour red wine sparkles through. I smell caramel and raisin, molasses. Something I have there, I suspect that it is a cask note. Somewhat moldy wood, but only very subliminal. Exhale more than inhale. Could also go towards tobacco. Will after the first sip probably clearer, in which direction it is.
After the first sip it is rather sulfur for me.
Interesting, sometimes I smell only the sweet flavors, the other time only the sour wine notes.
      Changes constantly.

Sherry; immediately switches from sour wine to sweetness; spicy oak; Nut; Behind it comes the leather note (Wow, I love the leather touch in the whisky); tender bitter, a touch of good espresso (with a nice dark chocolate note)
again clearly nut; totally mild in the mouth; the mouth is completely covered with aromas.
    • Finish
      87 87
Delicately bitter; Cinnamon; great oak note, sherry and chocolate; nut again; it lasts a long time. Now it is getting bitter in the mouth (like a bitter nut) but is gone again. Now full board dried fruits; again some cinnamon; Here it changes constantly, which I like very much. You can not catch everything, so the flavors are smashed around your ears
At the end, only sulfur gets stuck.
After the third sip, the note covers all tastes (as if it has built up and is now totally dominant)

Sweet sherry nose with raisins. Palate is dusty, sawdust, finish with pepper.

  4. Xstream scored this whisky 90 points Expert Junior

Nose raisins, caramel, ripe fruit, tutti frutti, apple, creamy, vanilla, something spicy that I can not quite place.
Body is medium thick. Sweetish, caramel, some wood. Finish is more wood, spicy, medium dry. Developed nicely to a slight bitterness.

I had another sample of a 1988 vW during a blind tasting session, which was remarkably less sherry cask influenced. I scored that one remarkably lower, perhaps because i could not easily identify what i was tasting.
    • Nose
Nice old sherry bomb-like with a twist. So there are the plums, and mocca, and chocolate, and caramel, some furniture polish and some nuts. But this together with a nice pinch of sulphur, and some anise, fennel and even some maggi
    • Taste
In the mouth it is somewhat more spicy, and more oak present. Also new is some leather and tobacco. Still a nice old layered body of sherry casks, and still this fennel present...
    • Finish
Bit dry and bitter, with quite some dark chocolate, The sulfur is starting to become a bit annoying now, luckily there is much more in the finish so it doesn't overwhelm.

Delicious. We recommend. Here time is absolutely rewarded.
    • Nose
Spicy and sweet red wine with strawberries, cherries, hazelnuts and almonds, orange peel, clove and nutmeg, tobacco and milk chocolate
    • Taste
Quite powerful at 46%, lots of spice, chocolate and wet tobacco, also spicy wood is gradually dominant, light cinnamon note
    • Finish
Eichiger basic, very spicy, warming - but only on the tongue, elsewhere it is gone quite fast
