Whisky Reviews for Mortlach 1992 DL

  1. St. Pauli scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

One of the best, if not THE best Mortlach I've come across. It's very friendly, soft, but full of taste. But what's more important: it has a special character that you won't find so quickly in other whiskies.
    • Nose
This one smells really fresh, and almost perfumed, for a sherry matured whisky directly after pouring. Later, nothing is left, and what you get is old skool nutty sherried whisky. There is still some freshness of orange and menthol. For the rest, it's quite woody/musky, spicy and nutty. Cedar wood, cinnamon, roasted chestnuts and hazelnut liqueur. Behind that, there is mocha.
    • Taste
Still big, but actually a bit fresher on the palate. There is nice acidity of orange juice and red fruit. But some meaty notes of leather, and the woody (polished oak, cedar wood), nutty (hazelnut, chestnut) and spicy character (cinnamon, a bit of clove) dominates. And still the entire package remains quite compact and friendly. It's a whisky, but with the appearance of a liqueur.
    • Finish
Long, soft, and pleasant. It makes me think of a creamy cocktail with both mocha and hazelnut in it. Still, there is some freshness, and only a little of leather.

A very nice Mortlach with a decent dose of sherry
    • Nose
Nutty, chocolate, prunes, oranges, some light smoke, touch of leather, old wooden furniture
    • Taste
Chocolate, oranges, prunes, cinnamon, roasted chestnut, smoke
    • Finish
      Oily, pepper, chocolate, oranges

Love this Mortlach style. Preferred it without water, as the water toned the edge Down.
    • Nose
Sherry Mortlach indeed. So heavy and meaty and just a Hint of smoked meat. Matches. Furniture polish and paint eventually. Ashy. Apricot jam. Chocolate. Dried fruit. Vanilla and mint.
    • Taste
Sticky and meaty. YES! Spicy. Cardamom and cinnamon. Dried fruits yes. Sweet Oranges. Vanilla. Pretty intense. Nutty for sure. Fudge.
    • Finish
Long! Spicyness intensifies. Citrusy. Jammy. Still Heavy and meaty. Hint of tobacco inthe very end

With no shoplink I think the price here is out of time  !

  9. Berrysaki scored this whisky 92 points Expert Junior

    This is a terrific whisky!
    • Nose
Lots of sherry, hint of citrus, Demerara sugar and on the background a hint of cinnamon
    • Taste
At first, the sweetness of the sherry and Demerara sugar are coming through. It covers your whole mouth. Afterwards, the alcohol and oak are coming through. Very rich, meaty whisky. Keeps me interested because there is so much to taste that I cannot find a proper description for.
    • Finish
Long nice meaty, peppery finish (30+ sec), burnt sugar is trying to come through.
