Compared this one with other popular entry range bourbons (Fore roses yellow label and Jim beam white label) And this one is in the middle.
I think this one is made with mixing in mind and nothing more.
Leading note is banana with some vanilla spots.

Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 should be labelled a bang for your buck whiskey, with the obvious corollary that due to the incredibly small bucks one cannot realistically expect much more than small bangs. As a Tennessee whiskey, Old No. 7 has undergone the Lincoln County Process, which, in addition to being bottled at 40%, results in a very "mellow" whiskey. But to my mind, mellow is not always a bad thing. The nose is greeted with vanilla, artificial banana, a light maple syrup and maybe a touch of varnish. The palate largely follows from the nose: vanilla, syrup, very light banana with the addition of the charcoal/wood to offset the sweetness. The finish is short, with the sweetness fading into a light bitterness. ON7 causes one to consider scoring systems and the priorities one applies. To my mind "complex with some off-notes" should be rated lower than "simple but enjoyable." After seeing the average ratings and the general dismissal of this most ubiquitous of whiskies, I must admit to being pleasantly surprised.

You can drink it pure, but it is more suitable for mixing!

Mild drink, good cocktail base. Definitely not for enjoying.
    • Nose
Vanilla, honey, apple notes, dusty wood, fruit acid drops, grassy notes, pickles
    • Taste
Medium-sweet, slightly spicy, some orchard berries, some herbs, a bit oaky
    • Finish
Basically no aftertaste: short, indistinct, red currants

Not how I remembered it at all - always thought it was crap which is why people often mix it with coke but actually inoffensive.
    • Nose
Not as potent as some bourbons - quiet gentle.
    • Taste
Far less sugary than I remembered it from my last taste.
    • Finish
It doesn't linger but leaves quite a pleasant after taste.
