A great Clynelish - old style!
    • Nose
      92 92
Intense, fruity, pineapple, overripe mango, beeswax, spices, whiffs of oak wood and old books - great!
    • Taste
      92 92
Punchy, oily, creamy, sirupy, good sweetness, fruity, more tropical fruits, more honey, more waxes, spices, ginger, fruit juices - very good!
    • Finish
      91 91
      Long, warm, fruity, still waxy

Honey wax papaya mango grapefruit, very good

A great example of how the hype is built for this famous distillery.
    • Nose
Light and fruity, 60s, 70s typical style, melon and sweet flowers, then it becomes super tropical, tons of papaya and passion fruits!
    • Taste
Very sweet, lemon oil and perfume (I mean good), hot despite low alcohol content but still elegant due to the balance from the sweet barley, very rich mouthfeel with a lot of floral flavors.
    • Finish
Long, bitter oak, floral and perfumy.

Every thing is balanced and well I suppose in harmony, I cannot really faulty whisky like this.

    With water:-

Its actually a little less expressive on the nose but there is more sweetness on the palate and a lovely plummy note and yes a little waxy but not overpowering.

Finish is a little longer and the sweetness remains until the end with pastry and cream.

What a belter of a whisky.
    • Nose
Apple, plum, brine and of course that classic Clynelish waxiness so its looking good so far. I also get a little warm biscuit and after a little time in the glass some grassy notes are evident which remind me of old Cragganmore bottles.
    • Taste
Very, very creamy, a substantial mouth feel which is what I love about some older whiskies. There are definite pastry notes to the fore with the fruit a little in the background.

The ever so slightly bitter apple notes get stronger and then there is a right royal battle between the sweeter fruit notes and the drier pastry notes, its actually not bitter just a little shy, perhaps a little water will help?
    • Finish
Good medium length, creamy & some fruity sweetness but its not a massive fruit, just right really.
