In the aroma there is ash and an extinguished fire mixed with egg yolk, iodine and gouache. The taste is sweet and sour, dry with nuances of burnt wood chips, ash and vanilla. Medium finish, chemical ash with vanilla and plastic.

A simple yet punchy and bodily whisky, with character, smokiness on the verge of a chemical profile, pretty good.

    RATING: 83pts - | 83 - 86 (B) → Good | - Not a “must”, but a nice-to-have.

    • Nose
Smoke that really cleans. Then a bit charred wood and very light, floral notes.
    • Taste
Actually only smoke - as if you inhale a mouth full of campfires.
    • Finish
Smoke in the first place, sooooo far behind the flowers?

  6. Snerik scored this whisky 82 points Expert Junior

A good “everyday dram”, if you have a fetish for peat that is.
    • Nose
Well… Peat anyone? Butter, white flowers, firewood. Nothing either overly exiting nor extraordinary, however, the nose is still clean and… Peaty.
    • Taste
Peat, peat, peat and some butter maybe?
    • Finish
It’s a medium long finish, loads of peat (again) with notes of lime zest and maybe some flowers in the back. It reminds me of a really, really peaty mezcal.

  10. Hemdl scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Pleasant, though apparently very young, Islay-Malt at a very good price. Not for friends of great flavors, but for social evenings all right.
    • Nose
Strong and sweet smoke, with salty sea air behind. Unfavorably stronger in the nose than the alcohol content suggests, very fresh menthol note. Vanilla,
    • Taste
Salt, peat smoke, a little vanilla. Pleasantly strong on the tongue, even if the variety of flavors is not far away.
    • Finish
Short, smoky finish. There is a lack of maturity and a bit more power here.

Some dirty stuff, but not well balanced. Not a very pleasant aftertaste.

  15. pilgrim77 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Lovely balance of smoky peat, salty sea air and ripe citrus fruits on the nose, helped by the addition of a drop of water. Clearly young, but not overly harsh, and the sweet fruity aspects add a delightful extra dimension. Similar profile on the palate, with soft peat smoke mingling with lemon and lime, coffee and a hint of cocoa. Relatively short finish for an islay, but maintaining its poise and balance to the end. Very drinkable and very fairly priced.

The nose and finish are the best parts. The taste is a bit less interesting, but still a decent everyday drinking whisky for peat lovers. 84/85.Small sample from Whiskybase.
    • Nose
A remarkably fresh start which I associate with lime pie. Then gingerbread, peat, apricot, salt, limestone and eventually nutmeg.
    • Taste
Lime, peat, chocolate, salt and orange.
    • Finish
Lime pie, peat, chocolate, gingerbread, toffee and vanilla.
