Whisky Reviews for Glengoyne 1998 MoS

- To my taste, complex and anything but boring. No typical sherry bomb that covers everything.
Raisins, dry oak, metallic sweetness.
Apricots, dark fruits.
Again a very dry mouthfeel. Raisins and dark chocolate. On nice sulfurous smell. Walnuts and rum pot.
Warm and creamy. The dark fruits stay long. The Brennereicharakter is also present for a longer time.
- one of the dancers, rather a Fanta sulfur bomb than a sherry bomb, but really interesting and balanced.
slightly sulphurous, madeira-like, intense orange sweetness, popcorn in butter. Very interesting, but also delicious!
sweet, sulfurous, honey syrup, jaffa cake, milk chocolate. Good!
long, honey sweet without end.
- A bit better than the Bourbon version for me which I shared also. A solid Sherry Glengoyne with "some special effects"! :-)
by far not as dark as it seems on the photo!
A lot of bacon and smoke which is no typical Glengoyne nose. Some pepper and strawberry notes show up. Quite well balanced!
Fruity sweetness is now more dominant and the smoke disappears from second to second but is still somewhere in the back. On top of the plums I have some brown sugar, oak and pepper again.
The finish is smooth not bitter at all and quite long for its young age.
- sergeA lighter colour this time. Colour: deep gold. Nose: maybe refill this time,
this is lighter, more herbal… I also find these whiffs of rubber again (bands)
as well as rather fruit skins and leaves. It’s a little hard to nose this after
the sherry monsters, I should have been more careful and check the colours.
Because yes, of course colours do matter, as long as the whisky’s not been
caramelised. Cherry leaves, a little sawdust, perhaps. Mouth: I don’t know. I
love some parts, some others are a little too… rubbery. Preserved plums, a
feeling of chalk, rubber bands, sulphur, then pepper… Nah it’s very good, but
once again, the others were better (in my opinion, as always.) Finish: quite
long, a little more uncertain. Comments: I think I should have had this one as
#1 within this flight.
- Color: dark red gold
Nose: Sulphur / gunpowder - ohoh - you probably have to like this kind of nose ;).
Palate: Still pretty much on gunpowder, the sherry in the background kind of manages to shine through, slightly alcoholic. Some leather and dried red fruits in the background. Old leather.
Finish: Also heavy on gunpowder, red dried fruits, getting a little sweeter with time.
Souns weird, but is pretty good if you have no problem with sulphur in your glass....
