Barterhouse 20yo Orphan Barrel 45.1%.
25ml at home, June 2021.
Very dark orange brown, darkest amber.
Aroma is huge toffee, massive caramelised buttery notes, boozy fudge, rum and raisin fudge. Outrageous aroma. Intense and pleasant.
Oily body. Taste is rich, woody, spicy, cinnamon, not hot at all, rounded and easy, clove. Rich potent flavour. Not oaky but as rich and as cask-influenced as you like. Very good. A solid bourbon without a doubt. Just grew and grew on me. If anything it could do with being slightly stronger towards the 50% mark. Great, and I would be chuffed to have one on my shelf. There are no bargains to be had here though – at least £250 a bottle last time I checked. 3.65/87
