- Straw gold pour. Nose is bright, coastal, lots of peat smoke, some citrus, more savory notes like kelp, fermented bean curd. Mouth is thick, creamy. Super sharp attack, tons of peat in a pleasantly velvety package with stone fruit and lots of well integrated drier notes. Lots of sharp spice kick along the palate. As with the nose, a light seaweed savory note. Really good stuff, was a great value for the price.
- 'A Treasure Hunt Dram'
N: Intense yeasty, meaty, peaty, spicy sweet nose, much like the 18yo, but theres more. Honeyed peppered ham, onions, vegetable stock cubes, later the peat displaying some sweet cream soda closely tied to the oily, tar like peat. Challenging nose.
T: intense, strong, dense, salty cooking marinade, vinegar, tinned tomatoes, chilli sauce, mustard, tamarind, oil, peat, pumpkin, aniseed, liquorice, spinach, fennel, fisherman's friend….
F: the lingering dense spicy marinade suddenly diminishes, revealing mild maltiness, fresh herbals and some oily, woody, sticky, sweet tar - the whole profile swirling around. Some boiled sweets, spearmint, some root vegetal, potato crisps, dandelion & burdoch with a touch of Pimms & bitter lemonade. Any of the aforementioned tastes reprising, in and out, swirling round one another
C: A 'treasure hunt dram' right here, the more you look the more you find, This has everything, salt, sweet, spice, herbal, oily, bitter, sour, the whole gambut, swirling around, earlier tastes coming back for more, layer upon layer of multiple combinations. Right up my street.
