Whisky Reviews for Lagavulin Triple Matured Edition

Great whisky but no tygienic Lagavulin
    • Nose
Smoked ham on orange, quite restrained or very well interwoven smoke, a bit maritime and mineral, strawberry jelly, dates
    • Taste
Velvety, slightly smoky, cocoa powder, again the smoke is not superficial, becoming stronger, oak flavoring, orange chocolate
    • Finish
Again very chocolaty, only here I think the typical character and the smoke of Lagavulin present, beautiful oak without any bitterness

the nose knows how to please, but everything afterwards does not reach the high level of Lagavulin.
    • Nose
A very sweet, caramel-stressed variant of the classic Lagastils. Beautiful grill-like smoke flavor, reminiscent of Ricola herb sugar. Really round and pleasant.
    • Taste
More spry than the nose suggests, less volume than usual from Laga. Salty and sweet, medium smoke level. I'm waiting, but much more is not happening.
    • Finish
      medium length, woody, spicy.

Fairly solid for a Lagavulin, but unfortunatly the weakest (in abv. and overall) during the warehouse tasting 2014. More a collector's item than a version the world's been waiting for. Only dumbdumbs think the more casks the whisky has been in the better. ;-)

Very smoky, very intensiv, with a very long finish, dark colour

Tasty, unfortunately, the "Triple Matured" too much conceals the independent Laga character

[October, 2016]  I had this dram during a "Lagavulin Bicentenary" tasting at Bonn.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  My notes state simply "very quaffable!"

  10. Spirit of Delphi scored this whisky 89 points Member Senior

    Beautiful good drinkable Lagavulin
    • Nose
dark relaxed Sherryton, just slightly smoky, caramel, reminds me a bit of Highland Park 18, wonderfully round and deep, with the time comes a subtle maritime touch
    • Taste
Smokier in the mouth, despite the 48% soft, caramel sweetness, nicely balanced but less complex than in the nose
    • Finish
Medium, on the palate remains the typical Lagavulin smoke
