Very well balanced. Nice soft peaty smell with long sweet taste. Good whisky for small money.

Slightly peaty, full in the nostrils and light on the palate. Very good.

  9. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

If only this one would be bottled at a higher abv....I guess it would have been a real cracker! Now it lacks body on the palate, but fortunately nose and finish are very good.
    • Nose
This nose is actually quite nice! Clearly there is peat, but not in the ‘dirty’, earthy kind of way as Islay peat. Combined with the fresh, fruity character from Fiddich it is a very pleasant nose! Red apples, cinnamon and a wee hint of ripe banana.
    • Taste
This is, unfortunately, where the well known shortcoming of Glenfiddich reveals itself. Ok, it’s friendly and soft/silky and there is a dry wood touch. But why don’t they start botteling way more at (at least) 43% or more. It would give this dram much more body, depth and complexity which would really mean THE finishing touch to make it from good to great.
    • Finish
Luckily after a rather disapointing taste, the finish is very pleasant! Again the combination of peat with the fresh fruity character works great. There is a more campfire kind of smoke/peat in the finish which is faboulous. Together with a hint of marshmallows and some caramelized apples it gives actually quite a long and sweet-bittersweet finish.

  10. Achany scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

the peat on the nose is just incredible. on the palate there fruits, some salt, some fine influence from the oak, sweetness. the peat and sweetness do mingle very well. finish is all right. the light peat touch of it fading away was nice. I did not expect such a fine peated malt from Glenfiddich. Very nice dram!

The nose promised a lot, the palate held little. 75th
    • Nose
Slightly smoky, sweeter. Alcohol is super involved, you notice nothing. Very pleasant and interesting in the interplay between sweetness and smoke.
    • Taste
Disappointing, the nose was hoping for more. Alcohol is about to be felt. Slightly sweet and subtly smoky.
    • Finish
      Medium long, hardly any smoke.

  12. ctu scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Interesting but pleasant peaty flavors from Glenfiddish.
    • Nose
Sweet peat, pear and green apple, vanilla, salt and straw.
    • Taste
Creamy. Sweet peat, grilled citruses, honey, salted caramel, smoke, tobacco, ginger and pepper.
    • Finish
Medium length with tobacco, smoke and fruits.

  13. Allandale scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Freshly cut straw and bonfire smoke, real an autumn evening. Smokiness and leafy, floral notes to intrigue and delight.
    • Taste
An initial burst of sweetness with vanilla, creme brûlée  and citrus. Followed by a rush of smoke, burning embers and meadow flowers.
    • Finish
Long lasting, floral and smoky notes.

Very good aroma, the smoke is noticeable, but not intrusive. Hmmm, that's great too. Well, he has only 40%, but they do not bother you here. The alcohol stays discreetly in the background, lets the smoky aroma unfold. A great malt!

Glenfiddich and smoke, interesting experiment. Rather economical in terms of flavor variety. Blind tasting --- Wichtelbus XX - Blind with smoke *
    • Nose
He starts with a fine smoky note, which is very fruity and floral. The smoke dissolves relatively quickly in favor or the nose quickly gets used to the smoke. Free of smoke "impairments" are green apples, vanilla, some honey. Over time, mild herbs come to light.
    • Taste
Extremely mild start. At first there is some smoke and salt on the tongue. Both disappear quickly. Then comes a little vanilla, some milk chocolate, a little bit of oak. Hardly any volume, rather "thin" and not very sustainable. Back slightly kräutrig, with a hint of bitterness and oak. You have to chop the aromas very much in order to catch them.
    • Finish
Short, dry with some fruit and oak.

  18. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Glenfiddich & Rauch, that does not have to be. However, due to some idiosyncratic notes quite an exciting thing.
    • Nose
light, fruity, fermented fruit, peat smoke medium intensity pushes in the nose, a little oak, but also a little cheesy.
    • Taste
The peat is immediately present on arrival, if not too powerful, then comes some pepper, fruit, a few tart oak notes and an amazing alcoholic pungency for 40%.
    • Finish
The finish is rather light, fruit, peat, the fermented is back, towards the end some smoke and some oak. Rather short.

  19. Jonkers scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Certainly no "ordinary" Glenfiddich! A Speysider with 6 smoke in both nose, taste and finish. Maybe "back to the origin"? Fine whisky!
    • Nose
Smoky and sweet. After rolling, more scents come forward such as raisins, leather, chocolate and butter.
    • Taste
Sweet of honey. Raisins and chocolate.
    • Finish
Very sweet with a pleasant bitterness. Long aftertaste.

  20. Mr.Edradour scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

I prefer other peated whiskies much more. This is not the strength of Glenfiddich.

  25. thijs100 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

An interesting peated whisky from Glenfiddich with some fun coastal elements.
    • Nose
Subtle peat and soft smoke from a smouldering bonfire. There’s some green apples and stewed pears, but it also has an earthy quality. And before I forget, this is surprisingly salty.
    • Taste
An oily spirit, with peat smoke. Dry with tobacco leafs. A hint of honey, along with lemon peel and vanilla.
    • Finish
The apple and pear return in the finish, and are accompanied by tobacco and peat.

  26. smaeksle did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Dear%. Then everything may become more complex and voluminous.
    • Nose
Light, honey, fresh hay, grassy, malt, and slightly smoky.
    • Taste
Slightly watery, no touch prevails. Honey, slightly malty, slightly bitter.
    • Finish
He is consistently malty, and even after a few minutes in the finish.

    • Taste
sweet, with lemon and peat notes on the begginning, slightly diluted and later subtly spicy
    • Finish
medium-long, fresh, with hint of sweetness and peat

  28. D3US scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

I’ll admit it; I’m not particularly a Glenfiddich fan. I’ve always found their whiskies to be nice to drink, easy to drink, but never very special. Until now. This is one hell of a whisky. Complex from start to finish, I thoroughly enjoyed this.
    • Nose
Surprisingly peaty! Of course I knew I could expect some peat smoke here, but this is more than I expected. Quite salty as well, a clear sea weed note and even a bit of oil. After that there’s definite vanilla, quite clear, almost creme brûlée here. A hint of a light and sour fruit, lemon perhaps. Light spice too, a pinch of pepper maybe.
    • Taste
Again, the first thing to hit is peat, unsurprisingly. After that there’s that lovely vanilla again, followed by the citrus. A flowery note even now, which I can’t really put my finger on. Only at the end the salt kicks in, which now reminds me of roasted shellfish or something like that. The spice is again very light, bringing just a hint of bitterness, but because it’s so little this remains a smooth, soft and mellow whisky on the palate.
    • Finish
The light bitter note starts off a lovely mix of sweet vanilla, refreshing citrus, chocolate now even, and smokey saltiness. The peat still reminds me of roasted seafood and is a constant factor here, but never too much in your face. Vanilla and soft fruits are left in the end.
