Whisky Reviews for Karuizawa 1984 Shi
3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 91.37 points
- A big and heavily sherried Karuizawa, but rather dry in the finish and the wood rather loud.
- In a flight with two old 1981 Karu Noh and a smattering of Hanyu! Burnt umber color.
Aroma: richest sherry of the three. coffee beans, old oak, leather saddle, tobacco. so many interesting things going on!
Flavor: all of the rich, old leathers and pipe tobaccos, coffee beans, ripe fruits. its sweet and then dry but so concentrated and powerful.
finish: long and then dries out with lots of old woods and syrup.
overall: WOW. Best of the three and this is a 1984 against the two 1981s. a special cask apparently of very good sherry, according to the owner here who seems to know quite a bit about Karu! even among some great Japanese whiskies this stands out as very special.
- Tasted from sample, it shares same profile as 3692, big sherry whisky but a little drier wood influence and oakier, may be rated 2 points below the 3692 but still very good! A fancy label too...
