Gold color. Surprisingly rare for the power.
    • Nose
Pretty intense. Lots of caramel. A little more smoke appeared over time. Light peat and herbal notes. Thyme, rosemary.
    • Taste
Sweet. Some salt. Salty caramel. Spices. Chili. Smoke. Peat.
    • Finish
Peat. Caramel. Salty caramel. A pinch of spices. Salt.

Paul John Peated Select Cask 55.5%, 5cl bottle consumed Dec 2020. Rich bourbon-like aroma of oak, honey, honeycomb, clove and banana. A touch of peat wafted out on opening the bottle but this dies in the glass. Taste is perfumed, bold, spicy, some soap notes, cedar. Woohf. Spicy aromatic woods. Punchy. Punchy but way out of balance, not very refined in my book. 3.1/74

Superb stuff. Peat combines well with paul john's fruity spirit. Slightly medicinal smoke and tropical fruits on the nose. That continues on the palate

spicier nose compared to the Paul John Bold, fuller flavored but lacks the intense metallic and minerally notes of the Bold. fruitier, deeper and darker and still very good

A nice, round whisky with a good balance between smoke and sweetness. The long syrupy finish remains in memory. This was my first whisky from India that I was allowed to taste, but aroused my curiosity - 17.12.2016
    • Nose
A touch of smoke, smoked notes, Black Forest ham but strong, slightly medicinal, honey sweetness, bright fruits, pear, good balance between smoke and sweetness, alcohol is barely noticeable
    • Taste
Malt sweetness, smoky-dry, campfire, red pepper on the tip of the tongue, barely bitterness, syrupy at the end, cough syrup
    • Finish
      Lang

    N-
Blows of sweet peat with sharp balsamic, alluring wet fur. Soft and
elegant on nose despite high strength. Vanilla and oak at spine.

P- Buddha fruits sweet and touch of bitter, cool mint underlay, standing tall and firm. F- Refreshing, whiff of woody bitter and intense thick honey, not so
pronounce on peat compare to Bold, balance and delicious dram.

Water definitely brings out the nuanced complexities of this well made whisky. According to the brand ambassador, it's about 7 years old and matured in exclusively bourbon casks.
    • Nose
Citrus zest, light floral peat, and floral notes

peated soft white fruits and lemon cream
    • Taste
soft white fruits, cereal grains, and floral peat

      with water: earthy savory-herbs

vanilla, creme brulee and smoked cream
    • Finish
floral peat with orange blossom water

with water: mixed baking spices at the very end

  21. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

I am a big fan of the peated Indian Whsky, as they combine the great spicy fruit notes with the peat smoke. I think that fits very well. This one joins seamlessly. By the way dangerous tasty.
    • Nose
In addition to a clear, earthy peat note fruity notes and many spices are the nose out. Some orange peels, but also tropical fruits and the imagination should be thanked, Indian spices. The nose is delicious.
    • Taste
Much peat, very strong, menthol and the alcohol shows up a bit. With water then fruity and slightly peppery, and of course always accompanied by the strong peat smoke.
    • Finish
Slightly salty, some pepper, spices, probably from the oak, orange peel and of course a significant amount of peat smoke.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Walnut, barley sugar sweets and classic earthy peat notes. A touch of salt.Palate: More BBQ smoke, more sugar, more slightly damp earthy notes. Hints of tropical fruit and spice.Finish: Bitter orange peels on the finish.Overall: Catches a good balance of "sweet" and "peat" loved by many.

    The best Paul John so
far, without any doubt. Around 80 EUR.
    • Nose
      Apart from honey and
a touch of fruit, with citrus in the lead (say mandarin and lime), I get loads
of peat in the share of earth, vegetal hints and plasticine. Quite floral too.
Heather? Dandelions? Hints of cocoa. The nose is quite pleasant.
    • Taste
      Despite the higher
ABV it arrives rather softly. The peat speaks first, with a salty edge,
followed by wonderful fruity notes from tropical fruits, both fresh and
candied. This is good. The honey makes it somewhat creamy. The peat makes it
      powerfully smoky.
    • Finish
      The finish may be somewhat
short, but does remain nicely smoky with a lime-y finish.
