Whisky Reviews for Royal Salute 21-year-old

  1. PaulDvorak scored this whisky 84 points Expert Junior

Soft, balanced, with ginger biscuits, peppermint and orange peel in the aroma, spicy taste with hints of orange, oak and flowers, medium-long finish, wood-citrus.
In the aroma it is pure malt, the taste makes it clear that it is a seasoned and well-balanced blend. Those who love very soft in taste and finish scotch tape can safely take it.

Good drinkable. More but not honest. There is an x-any 10er standard interesting. Pretty fresh for his age.

The nose and the matured oak taste is very encouraging, but somehow I don't consist a round of the whole story...
    • Nose
Slight. Peaches, flowers and a breath of fresh mint
    • Taste
Vanilla, fruits, caramel, matured oak flavors
    • Finish
      Medium length, woody

N- Rich, peaches and fruity with hint of eucalyptus. Floral and nutty.

P- Full body and deep, fruity sweet with vanilla on a thin coat of toasted cereal smokes.

F- Medium length, pleasant and lingering.

Once there was a time where I thought that this was as good as whisky could be ( Yes Yes I know).

Saw it on offer recently and bought one. Is it still good after all theese years?

Yes! Fine enough. But not great by any means. But a nice sipper that even hard core malt mates could enjoy - if we just forget about beeing intellectual about whisky.

There are som good fruity and spicy elements with toffee in both nose and on the palate. But all toned down to a degree that it becomes a bit dull.

Finish except from a slight bitterness that isn't to my liking (E150??)

FOLLOW UP: Got more tasty and complex as the fill level went down. Still far from a good 21 you single malt. But quite delicious in its own way. Scored it 80 but have bumped it up to 83. On offer it can be found at a reasonable price from time to time.

Great Bottle and presentation but far too expensive. No outstanding whisky, 30 EUR would be the maximum to pay for the taste. Sounds harsh, but for 30-40 EUR you can find comparable fine blends.

I bought my brother one of these for his 30th birthday, in 1985.

I've since been given one of my own and splashed it around.

He been keeping his locked up for 30 years, so now at his 60th I demanded we finish it off.

He thought it was G-R-8! While I thought it was as I remembered...

    booooring... and over rated.

Yes, it's smooth and easy drinkable, it won't make you nausiated, but neither will it wake your taste buds.

Everytime I see a blend with this age statement I shrud at the thought of what goodness have been diluted.

And at that price you can get a very decent single malt in a normal bottle.
