Whisky Reviews for Glentauchers 1996 TF

It would be beautiful if it were not for the aroma, the taste / finish is easy and pleasant, very rich and complex, the fragrance also seems to try to show the appropriate notes, but if they are, they are pushed far into the background.
    • Nose
Open, wet, grain, wool, lard, vegetables - boiled potatoes, radish; used frying oil, cooled porridge, a little lemon peel, pork broth, over time in the background you can distinguish between citrus fruits and tropical fruits, but they are very weak.
    • Taste
      Powerful, dense, unexpectedly clean, devoid of any connection with the aroma - lollipops, orange and tangerines, herbs, juicy tropical fruits - mango, papaya, Thai melon, banana, passion fruit;
    • Finish
Continuation of taste flavored with oak and light ginger taste, light tropical fruits, citrus, lollipops, mint.

The addition of water seems to me beneficial, but everyone to see of course.
    • Nose
Immediately it reminds me of the marine polish of my childhood, relayed then by smells of malted cereals, vanilla, fruits (pineapple, peaches) and finally by Some perfumes thus mentholées.
    • Taste
Mouth quite sweet despite the degree of alcohol and a little syrupy. Always varnish with an abundance of fruity notes (yellow fruits), vanilla and spicy (pepper) with grassy notes a bit spicy and bitter.
    • Finish
Rather long, always on an austere and peppery bitterness.

    Serge:
Glentauchers 17 yo 1996/2014 (57.2%, Tasting Fellows, barrel, 146 bottles)
A few friends and good spirits, that’s the way for boutique independent
bottlers! The big ones sometimes called them ‘armchair bottlers’, but
I’ve already found quite a few wonderful armchairs in the past. Colour:
gold. Nose: very different from the G&M, which is normal since the
casks aren’t the same at all. This time it all starts with some varnish
and both tinned and fresh pineapple, before we find more kiwis, peaches
and apple peelings. A new pack of jellybeans. The varnishy side is
actually very pleasant, it’s good natural varnish! With water: rather
ripe apples with water. Mouth (neat): much in line with the nose, with
this combination of ‘good’ varnish and youthful yellow fruits.
Pineapples big time, also grapefruits and greengages, then more vanilla.
With water: zesty bubblegum and jellybeans. The oak got a little
louder. Finish: long, on pepper and pineapple drops. Comments: a
spectacular style. Do Haribo now own Glentauchers? SGP:741 - 86 points.

Nose: sweet barley and plenty of vanilla at
first, with some marzipan and latte notes. Apples and peaches. There’s a
bubblegummy side to it, something between  tropical bubblegum and
fruity rum (soft coconut). Faint minty notes. Mouth: bold attack, sweet
and very creamy. Still fruity, mainly fresh plums, but with a rapidly
growing spiciness. Say pepper and nutmeg, evolving towards herbal notes
and a slightly bitterness. Some leathery notes and faint hints of
bourbon whisky. It takes water quite well, in fact I recommend you add a
few drops. Finish: long, still a tad bitter and oaky.
Well-made whisky, with a nice rummy fruitiness. Very powerful due to
its alcohol volume. Be sure to play around with water. Around € 90.

Sorry, but that's not mine at all.
    • Nose
Very malty start with slightly alcoholic note. In addition a little nut. On the first impression in the nose, I actually typed a sherry refill. There is still some dark fruit lurking behind the unfortunately somewhat disturbing alcoholic nose, which, however, hardly comes into its own. Although the alcohol can be tamed with a little water, the fruit disappears too.
    • Taste
Very strong and unfortunately also quite piercing. Only with considerable amounts of water in the glass can be guessed that there is still something slumbering in the background.
    • Finish
Long definitely. But that was about it.
