Whisky Reviews for Johnnie Walker XR 21

  1. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Spitzenblend, which I would probably blindly do not necessarily believe in a blend and which one also notices his only 40% negative, in my opinion, much better than the Blue Label and can keep up well with several malts of his age, the visual presentation are the 150 € then almost adequate.
    • Nose
it immediately bounces off an intense aromatic - dark berries, ripe cherries, Toffifee, Sachertorte ... after a while milder, velvety - apricot, vanilla, honey, nougat ... just pleasant
    • Taste
Forest fruit jam, wild honey, dark chocolate, full-bodied and velvety, pleasant dark-sweet spiciness, the bitter / woody notes barely touched, but not reached
    • Finish
velvety dry, long, chocolaty, a hint of licorice

The total has more than the Royal Salute 21yo WID: 51839 to offer. Relatively dark fruits. Then quite a lot of oak.

For the price then but rather a 21 year old single malt. He is a lot more exciting then.

    • Nose
Subtle nose, slight floral, no peat, no oak.
    • Taste
Rather thin, slight sweetness and vanilla. Hint of spiciness
    • Finish
Short finish, slight oak and dry.

  4. HunterRomario scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

I tasted at the Whiskey Festival 2017. That grain is an unnecessarily big part. And some percentage would be good for her, at least for the 43. But the bottle looks really good, and the whiskey is certainly cool. I like to taste.
    • Nose
Heavy floral scents, honey and dense fruit sweets. A little fragrance, but compared to Cutty Sark 18 yo, the smell is fuller, richer and more mature. For chocolate and caramel. (83 b)
    • Taste
The body is thinner than I liked, Holt's a blend, even when I was twenty-one. Honey, wood, caramels and chocolate. The flavor is well suited to the aroma. (83 b)

Slightly more Brora would have been nice. :)
    • Nose
Vanilla, citrus, bergamot, matured oak and solid smoke
    • Taste
Sweet, woody, spicy, smoky: grain, tea, peach
    • Finish
      Medium length, fruity

    (XR 8791 FJW)

    N-
Soft smokes arises and greet you as soon as I get close to the glass,
distant ashes, cheesy, cedar wood, soft aroma of Trinidad cigar box. A
little Bergamot aroma coming thru with sea soaked moist wood.

P- Arriving with mature tea notes, sweet pickle ginger, apricot, peach
and spicy rye. Apparent dry oak took over with slightly hollow space to
    fill. Missing some firm strength.

    F- Medium, extended fruits
and sweet smokes, charming nonetheless..... but in reverse manner. Would
hoped this could be with a bit more ommph.

    — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

A special edition release of Johnnie Walker, this 21 year old expression was inspired by the blending notes of Sir Alexander Walker. Featuring whisky from the extensive Johnnie Walker stocks, the XR 21 Year Old is even said to include whisky from the now-silent Brora distillery. Exciting stuff from Johnnie Walker!

This blend is supposed to include Brora - see the review on Master of malt at
