  1. Calmar scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

In the course of the tasting, two questions alternated: how did they get such a fortress at that age and how did they manage to fit it so that even thoughts do not arise about 60% when drinking? Excellent melt, amazing balance and unity, power, density, pitchnost - all with it, the only claim - too much oak, but you have to admit that everywhere it is in place and well harmonized with the rest of the components.
    • Nose
Cool, wet, strong bourbon of Stagg type, carpentry, solvent, wood tar, cask salted cucumber, carpentry workshop, vanilla, flower and honey colors in the background, calm, flowing like a full-flowing river, with its fortress absolutely not spirtuzen.
    • Taste
Woody-sweet, spicy, powerful, rich, oak in all sorts of manifestations, cream, boiled condensed milk, burnt sugar.
    • Finish
Spicy oak, soft and ubiquitous on a sweet substrate. lollipops, lemonade, orange peel, herbaceousness and light acidity.

  2. thijs100 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

The nose is beautiful, up there with some of the better whiskies I've tasted from the 1970s.
    • Nose
Spicy notes with furniture polish as well, but also a nice waxiness and subtle tropical influence with mango, apricot, peach, as well as floral honey. A touch of eucalyptus and cinnamon. Not too dissimilar from some of those excellent old anonymous Speysiders.
    • Taste
Creamy and waxy, and then a very spicy and hot arrival (ginger, chilis). Drying and somewhat bitter oak too. Orange marmelade, brown sugar, crème brûlée as well. Lets add some water... Brings out menthol, eucalyptus and even more dryness and bitterness.
    • Finish
      Oak tannins, spices. Long.

Far the best Glenkinchie, in a hardcore lowland style. Sumptuous. 89/90.
    • Nose
      89 89
Floral and spicy. Varnished wood, sawdust, waxy fruits and vanilla pudding.
    • Taste
      90 90
Powerful and syrupy. Spicy oak. Ginger beer, orange peel, vanilla pudding, caramel and strawberry foam.
    • Finish
      89 89
      Long, spicy with citruses.

  5. lincolnimp scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

I had no idea a Glenkinchie could taste so good, this is lovely stuff, the spice, sherry and peat in a perfect interplay of flavours.
    • Nose
      90 90
A lively spicy nose, with notes of wet earth, ginger, mango, peach and a little varnish
    • Taste
      92 92
Vibrant, very spicy, notes of ginger ale, various spices. steamed syrup pudding, Iron Bru, orange zest.
    • Finish
      92 92
Long, zesty, spicy and remaining sweet

      With Water:-
The nose has more spice, the palate gets even sweeter and now there are definite peat notes, the finish is still long and even more spice

  6. Cubey666 scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Tasted this beautiful Glenkinchie at the 2nd Whiskybase Gathering in Rotterdam, November 2017.

remarkable quality dram, surprisingly high %avb after 33 years in a cask, but one is not bothered any moment by this, it had quite the full body to go along with the alcohol easily.

  7. KayMeertens scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Never tasted a great Glenkinchie before, but this one truely is. 89, would even have been 90 if it could handle water better.
    • Nose
Dried apricot, strawberry, melon, caramel and a little beeswax. Later vanilla pudding.
    • Taste
Strawberry, grape, wine gum, honey, roasted malt, marshmallow, caramel and tobacco.
    • Finish
Cocoa, musty chestnut, strawberry wine gum, marshmallow and caramel.

  8. Pawloff scored this whisky 88 points Expert Junior

As lowlands whisky, not so bad. Even interesting.
    • Nose
Pleasant sherry and even Cognac, raspberries, crushed leaves of black currant, mandarin, a bit of soap, wallpaper paste, banana chips, eucalyptus
    • Taste
bitter tea, decoction of leaves of sage, cherries in alcohol, a little metallic, slightly smoky profile, pencil, allspice, mustard, green pepper.
    • Finish
Spicy flavors, lightly smoky, moist peat, Cognac and the dryness of wood.

  9. u485tfu scored this whisky 94 points Expert Junior

Smell: first glue, then strawberry, very exceptional sweetness.

Taste: very intense onset, atypical for a Lowland. Tastes fiery, intense, herbs, grass and hay. Long warming finish with citrus fruits

Verdict: for the first time I understood why Diageo Rosebank closed in favor of Glenkinchie, this stuff is the best the Lowlands offer!

    Points: 94

  10. Mr.Sandwich scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

Nose: very soft, fruity and complex. No trace of the high alcohol content.
Mouth: Strong and hot, oily, heavy, sweet tropical fruit with a beautiful scale of the spice and traces of leather. Very pleasant tingle at 60.7%. Sticks properly on the tongue. Finish: Dry and medium to long, slightly salty. Nose and mouth are reflected in it. Had not guessed at a blind tasting that it is a lowlander. A big movie theater.

  11. Sonett scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

An extraordinary Glenkinchie that can be recommended also to a real connoseur.
    • Nose
Elegant and fresh with citrus, vanilla, vague sulphur, fermented tobacco (Davidoff blue mixture) and a little oak
    • Taste
Enters the mouth a bit swwwt and pale, then an explosion of fruits and spices.
    • Finish
Long finish slowly going from spices to orange peels to a bitter ending

  12. TheNose scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Nose: citrus, , moldy, powerful, little bit of cherries, little sulfur, tobacco, very complex

Taste: powerful, fruity, juicy, slight bitterness, bitter orange (marmelade)

Finish: long with fruit and some mold

    Very good Glenkinchie
