Having had the 1996, as well as the 1990 PX cask, I was very curious to see where this bottle fit into the beloved Glendronach Single Cask range. I was pleased to find a mouth feel similar to the 1990, thick and juicy as one would expect from so many years in the wood. Normally, I find I am partial to PX conditioned whisky, but I was anything but disappointed by this Oloroso cask. reminds me of Christmas pudding with gorgeous notes of stewed pear, plum, raisins, treacle and black currants. Vanilla is present as well as chewy nougat, and even faint notes of chocolate and a slight char note (the edge of grandma's apple pie that was in the oven a wee bit too long).

I must, however, protest the rising prices of these Glendronach single cask releases, and would be curious to know if they are outpacing the overall trend towards unattainablilty among exclusive release single malts. All in all, this bottle is probably not for those who enjoy a subdued or "restrained" scotch whisky, but for those who enjoy speyside opulance, character, and a true Sherry bomb, there are few I've had better.

A disappointing bottle, lacking fruitiness and depth. It has no qualities to set itself apart from the standard range. Glendronach's single-cask quality is slipping. This should have been vatted with other casks. Hey Alistair or Billy, I want my money back, or at least an exchange!
