Whisky Reviews for Dimple 15-year-old

When first opened this was kind of harsh and rough. Given some time to breathe in the bottle, this turned into a really drinkable and quite pleasant dram, but far from being complex or special. Probably the whisky with the lightest body I've had hitherto as well.
If you have tasted it as a single malt on it's own, you can taste the Glenkinchie in this, as it is the lead malt within the Dimple/Pinch blend for decades. It doesn't have any off-notes, so quite decent casks have been used, but I would've never guessed that this is 15 years old, therefore it just lacks depth, body and complexity. If the grain alcohol wouldn't be detectable, this would've scored a few points higher, nevertheless very okayish.
    • Nose
demerara sugar, pears, dried apricots, peaches, pineapple, flowers, honey, malt, allspice, cafe latte, a little soap, with deep nosing the grain shows as in neutral alcohol.
    • Taste
silky smooth arrival, fruity and sweet, peaches, (dried) apricots, dark malt, demerara sugar, a hint of grassy notes, a bit thin with a light body.
    • Finish
sweet, malty, demerara sugar, a little woody bitterness, eventually neutral grain alcohol, really short.

An inoffensive blend that noses well and shows some nice complexity on the palate, although the finish is pretty short.
    • Nose
Saw dust and honey. Floral with a light acidity, as well as some orchard fruits, prunes and melted butter. Smooth.
    • Taste
Some light tannins, as well as plums, sweet honey and some citrus. A touch of earl grey tea.
    • Finish
Fairly short. Some caramel and roasted peanuts.

    • Finish
not much , but still some spicyness , it might reming a little bit of linkwood I'd say

It's not that bad. But it's still blended whisky. But besides that it's quite good in taste.

I wouldn't look much for some deep sensuality in it.

But occasionaly for beginners should be just fine as a blended whisky.

It's maybe only my sentiment for that bottle as I had it at the very begining and it left some good meomories ;)

  7. Rosebank88 scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Begins fresh and delicate with a nice balancing act of tender oak, caramel, summer honey, biscuit malt and a hint of hay. Later, waxy apples, summer pears (Clapp's favorite) and warm earth follow. Maybe a hint of citrus. Very well put together.
    • Taste
Soft and easy to get started. Again malty and slightly grassy. Citrus zest, metallic accents, warm earth, caramel and dusty dryness.
    • Finish
Long, spicy, complex. Oak, hay, green hazelnuts, summer honey and citrus zests.
