Whisky Reviews for Glen Elgin 1990 SV

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.40 points

  1. DocF scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

An old and dainty malt. Round with a little water.
    • Nose
Plant sections, freshly sawn wood, overripe starrenets, malt, subtle hints of vanilla
    • Taste
Dark, ripe, malty, stout, coniferous forest, ripe apples, freshly sawn wood.
    • Finish
Malt coffee, always bitter, black coffee, bittersweet chocolate, again "lighter", cocoa, the well-known plant sections

  2. markjedi1 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Classic, fruity but sturdy Glen Elgin. Good! Less than 100 EUR.
    • Nose
Light yet delicious nose on green apples, loads of grass, fresh wood shavings, peach pie and vanilla. This is very summery (contrary to the weather as I write this). A bit waxy. After a few moments lime kicks in with a vengeance. Mild on the spices.
    • Taste
Nice arrival, mildly oily. Immediately Granny Smith apples and loads of spices. The oak is much louder than the nose predicted, but it is nicely balanced with the fruit. Next to apples, I also get peach and lime, gooseberries and a mild bitter hint of grapefruit.
    • Finish
The medium long finish continues in this trend, ending in a lightly drying mouth.

  3. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Tasty, strong, interesting (but not too freaky to enjoy more often), for and for 22 years and CS are 90 € a very fair deal.
    • Nose
a lot of grainy sweetness with vanilla and jelly banana, on the other hand green, immature, bitter notes - grass, lime, instant coffee powder, fascinating combination, some water strengthens the sweet side
    • Taste
dark chocolate, malt, burnt sugar, neat pepper (but can be defused with water), lime and grapefruit bitterness, coffee
    • Finish
long and spicy, here comes a good load of pepper and coffee

  4. Gloin scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

A classic ex-Bourbon whisky, which one quite notes his age. The oak is not too dominant. A whisky that offers what you expect from it.
    • Nose
Green apple, lime, wet sawdust, grass, slight hint of peach juice, tart vanilla, oak
    • Taste
Strong start and immediately the green apple is present again, followed by herbs and spicy oak. The oak is more dominant towards the nose
    • Finish
slight bitterness, oak and more grassy notes, medium length
