  1. Larry411 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

I had tried this some 2 years ago, or something, and thought it was "meh" (80/100). Now, pitting it against the Johnnie Walker 21, Celebratory Blend, and Black, it's better than I thought it was:

Citrus fruit and green bananas medley with their phloem in butterscotch with some vanilla ice cream, nutmeg, seared cotton balls (not sure why someone would light these on fire...), and bright flowers with celery mixed in.
    Compared to the others:
    1. Celebratory (86)
    2. 21 XR (86)
    3. Gold (85) - Used to be 80/100
    4. Black (82) - I used to have it at 76/100

The 21, Celebratory, and Gold were neck-and-neck and offered enough differences to warrant one to just grab each of them, or opt. for the better value and grab the Gold. The 21 tasted very much like a grain whisky - on par with good grain whiskies in the 18-25 year range, but, like grain whiskies, didn't have a huge amount of complexity, but it was cushy and sweet and good if you like grain whiskies.

Tasted at the Clynish distillery together with the Clynelish 14 and the Clynelish distillery exclusive. 60% of the malt component of this blend is supposed to be Clynelish.

It's a light but still rather rich dram. Mildly sweet with a hint of smoke in the finish (The Caol Ila in this blend). It could not stand it's ground against the two regular Clynelishes however.

Too light and watery, sweet, a bit smokey, very blur, a bit sour. With ice disappears. The worse JW among the ones I tasted so far (black label, green and blue).

  7. ZLako scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

This blended whisky contains whiskies from 12-18 years. For the price it's a great buy. It delivers like all Johnnie Walkers!

Nice but I expected something more.
Oily, mild sweet, mild caramel, mild vanilla, bit of smoke, maybe some chocolate.
    Good but overpriced.

  10. KrolikMorski scored this whisky 73 points Member Senior

After people's ratings I had some expectations. On the nose there is everything okay (very light, citrus fruits, vanilla, a little spicy) but on the tongue i can feel emptiness and same thing in finish besides some nice chocolate.

Pours clear, light gold. Scent is mild, some wood. Taste is very gentle, mild sweetness. Touch of peat. Mild chocolate. Decent, for sure, yet not overly intense.

I finished off the remains of a bottle bought for my wife's 30th birthday party. It was somewhat telling that almost nobody else at the party drank this.

I recall a delicate honeyed nose that is pleasant enough without offering much complexity. The taste has mild sweetness of honey and with some bitter oak which do not mesh well together. There is very little else going on in the taste, which gives way to a very short finish, disappearing in the mouth within a few seconds, despite the bitterness.

Best to save this one for mixing, but then again at this price, why wouldn't you just get a cheaper mixer if that's what you want?

  14. Malthead19 scored this whisky 71 points Connoisseur

    - mild, harmonious and slightly smoky blend
    - great to drink and noticeably better than BLACK or
    RED
    - with about 35 € I am still thinking within the framework (in the offer around
    the 30 € can be bought ...)
    • Nose
      mild, malty first impression
    • Taste
Mild start, round, not disturbing, slightly smoky touch (but very subtle), develops pleasantly in the mouth, malty
    • Finish
      short, soft finish;
      short, slightly smoky aftertaste

I was pleasantly surprised by this
    • Nose
red grapes, diluted honey, a trace of sherry, strawberries, a hint of peat and brine, a trace of rawness, creme brulee, fast whispers, omelette, needles
    • Taste
a trace of smoke, the sweetness turns into salinity, salt, dried cranberries, baking powder, chilli
    • Finish
weaker smoke, salt, salinity disappears, weaker malt, raisins,

  20. Carlos scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Very smooth and nice blended Whisky. I liked it better when it contained Whiskies with at least 18 years of maturation.
    • Nose
      85 85
Light hint of smoke, little sea weed, iodine, mellow spices, quite strong for a blended Whisky.
    • Taste
      85 85
Intense for a blended Whisky which shows that there might be a high % of sigle malt blended into. Oaky bitterness, mild smoke, bitter almonds, sweetness (raisins, toffee maybe honey) and orange at the end.
    • Finish
      83 83
Soft, gentle and rather short finish.

  21. Ivynor scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

    • Taste

Mouth ultra diluted but good, on caramel, plum, vanilla and milk chocolate.
    • Finish
      79 79
Finish very short and soft, a little caramel and vanilla. The main defect of this whiskey.

    • Nose
Sweet malt. Pleasant oak flavor. Over it a very fine hint of smoke. Surprisingly expressive and exciting nose!
    • Taste
Due to the low alcohol content milder but at the same time tasty strong spicy onset. The light smoke is also evident on the palate. Significantly less sweet than in the nose. A lot of oak. Some cocoa.
    • Finish
      Mid long. Drying. Dark.

I actually think this is keenly priced but it is a little thin on the palate.
    • Nose
Not that expressive on honey, lemon, and biscuit. Perhaps a faint hint of orange?
    • Taste
Its a little thin at first but there is a decent lemon, honey burst but also some bitterness that tastes like cocoa.
    • Finish
Not to bad and the honey comes through with an ever so slight bitterness in the background.

It is my favorite blended whisky
    • Nose
In the aroma smell homemade cherry compote. And it is smell, through which is very hard for me to smell something other. But I think here is a bit of caramel and spices.
    • Taste
Tastes of cloves with a little bit fruit and a hint of mint
    • Finish
In the end disappears cloves and in fruitness is slightly bitterness. The end is pleasantly dry.

    http://whiskycast.com/ratings/johnnie-walker-gold-label/

I admit to a bias here…Gold Label has been one of my favorite malts for years. The nose is creamy with hints of honey and cinnamon and a subtle touch of pears. The taste is thick and syrupy-smooth, building to a cinnamon and cilantro spiciness that fades to let honey and molasses notes have a turn. The finish is lingering with hints of hazelnut.

  39. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

He is probably just as he should be and wants - a tasty Zechwhisky the slightly upscale class, makes something visually, not too thin, but also not overflowing with flavors or too intense, goes down like oil and nothing bothers.
    • Nose
round, sweet, milk chocolate, toffee, some cereals, roasted aromas
    • Taste
Round again, tasty, pleasing, sweet and malty, honey, caramel, milk chocolate, raisins?
    • Finish
quite long, between milk and dark chocolate

This does not feel like a replacement for the old (18 yo) gold label. It is totally different. A lot younger and dryer. It's not a bad blend, but I wouldn't go running to the store again for this one.
