Whisky Reviews for Ben Nevis 1991 SV

- For the former issue price a TOP-PLV. A very balanced complex Ben Nevis.
- A very complex and tasty whisky
Very sweet and fruity, banana is dominant, followed by dried fruits, semolina and a hint of walnut
It remains sweet and fruity, the banana is there, sherry appears, it becomes slightly bitter on the palate.
A long, intense and peppery finish follows.
- a very good dram, sherry influence as I like it
obvious sherry influence but it must have been a refill butt because it´s not overpowered sherry in this one. nice dry nose with dried fruits and some oranges. a little dust, cigars. walnuts.
wonderful! complex and challenging! dry profile with malt, walnuts and a wonderfully restrained sherry influence. hints of japanese rice cake. I have never had that in any other whisky. a little peppery towards the finish.
long, peppery spicy.
- great sherry malt, so far one of the best I had from the silver series of SV
strong sherry, nougat, oak, gingerbread, ripe grapes and raisins, a few herbs behind
full body, immediately spicy-sparkling oak, including sweet and oily, almost sticky, yummy
at first soft and behavioral, becomes more bitter and spicy, the oak leaves a very long and pleasant tingle
- very good, but somehow a bit thin. The floral aroma is very attractive.
Orange, syrup, caramel, a little vanilla
Nut, wood, flowery, lemon blossom
medium length of flowers and wood
- It is worth its 65€ but also not more. I loved to have this dram in my glass.
Sherry and plums! Especially the plums are so intense it reminds me on my grandma's marmalade that she made years ago.
The alcohol is very dominant. I taste the plums again but also oak and a bit of smoke and pepper. After the great smell in the nose the taste is rather disappointing.
The finish is very short and warm but not negative. It fits to this whisky somehow.
- I like the basic notes quite well, but somehow I find it unbalanced.
These notes were written during a blind tasting!
Distinctive sherry notes, fruits, such as raisins and plums, but also a nutty component, smoke, I can not find, woody, slightly spicier Armomen, the second smell I arrange the fruity notes more towards raspberry, a bit reminiscent of Hubba Bubba
clear sherry in the mouth, noticeable impact of the oak with spice, you notice the age, the few alcohol is not optimally integrated for me
rather dry and bitter with oak and grape skins, long-lasting
