Whisky Reviews for Port Charlotte 2002 ANHA

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.23 points

  1. Andara scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

I love PC with sherry as they are usually quite powerful and open, this one is a little more closed. The sherry cask notes are there but not as present as in similar bottling. Metallic aftertaste. A nice one but not one of my favorites.

Water really opens this one up, would consider it an absolute necessary. Without water subtract 2-3 points

Excellent whisky, with this bottle (Anam on h-Alba) I'm probably tuned to the same frequency. Sample of whisky festival from Saxon Radebeul.
    • Nose
Heavy and dense smell. Sweet peat, heavy over-ripe and slightly dull fruit, sweet gum, earthy, honey. Milk chocolate, candied fruit, skin. Very interesting scent, still more shades appear in it, I enjoy. (93 b)
    • Taste
Tort and sherry, until laphroaigian medicine, but pouring sweet sherry. Smoke and smoke in a sweet pack. At the end of a burnt plum, chocolate. The taste fits perfectly to the smell. (93 b)

  3. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Hammer Whisky, for the taste a bit expensive for me, for PC11 / Sherry / SC / CS but quite fair with ~ 110 €.
    • Nose
first a breeze of fresh mushrooms (+ soil / moss?), but that is quickly gone, the smoke is relatively peaceful (rather old railway sleepers, farm, oily agricultural machinery, not medical / solvents / tar) and the sherry present, dried fruit, seasoning, Oak, leather
    • Taste
strong - of course - and the sherry gives plenty of abundance, even here, the smoke gives associations to old homestead, oily equipment, old grain, old wood, animal sheds / dry dung ... plus cough syrup, licorice, coffee ... a touch of blackberry
    • Finish
long, intense ... but very pleasant, for the starch / peat neither too bitter nor spicy ... dark, dark berries? ... very dry

Very smoky, spiny, burnt wood, ashes, tar, liquorice. Then a strong sweetness of sherry, but also a few sourish fruit notes. A diabolical combination.

Rostrot - wildly running thin legs

For his 60,6% starts the quite restrained, ie the alcohol does not overwhelm a directly, but the Sherrynoten are directly in the nose, surrounded by strong rather medical smoke. In the background I find some caramel - or is it the famous "Cow Stable"? - yes, that's more in the direction of the stable.

The onset but worn by alcohol, smoky / phenolic, but also the sherry comes through after a few seconds, now on the tongue "stall". Because of the sheer power, at least for me, not really more flavors spread. The second sip comes with some cherry.

Long, smoky, and a little above everything.

    With water:

Oh yes, he has leeway, the addition of a few drops of water makes it for me a little more complacent and oily. In the nose it almost flattens down in taste then something. Here you have to play - I'm still experimenting.

Not really complex, but exactly what you expect for 11yo PC with> 60% from the sherry barrel. A dram who personally joins me in the good to very good PC UA bottlings of the past few months (SSMC, SCOMA, Nürnberger Whiskystammtisch) and yet has its own character. We are happy to have something in reserve.

I got a sample of this one to taste. I compared it to the recent bottlings (Glenscoma, Maltbarn, Islay Scotch and more). Not as much sherry as the other bottlings. I do get horsestable and leather. Need some water when tasting it.
I could not fall in love with this, missed the fabulous combination of PC-sweetness, sherry, with peat and smoke.

Revision after tasting this one a few times. Maybe the best combination with water? I liked it more when tasting it again. Still less sweet than other bottlings but the leather, peat, some sherry..actually really nice.
