    Kind of okayish, but not very outspoken. Reminds me most of standard 12 yo blends. Not worth €50 by a long shot. I bought my bottle in a French supermarket for considerably less, but even then...

    Very alcoholic nose. Punchy and in your face. Taste..milk chocolate, burnt caramel and pepper. Short finish. Pretty decent, but overpriced.

    Taketsuru Pure Malt, (nikka) blended malt whisky 43%. Pineapple and ginger on the aroma. Faint oak and fruity esters. Some caramel. Decent nose. Very Japanese. Taste has a punch of caramel American oak, touches of bitterness but mostly smooth caramelised and rounded notes. Quite simple. Not much complexity but I enjoy what's there. A moderate-intensity thrust of toffee and then dies away into the softest salty-oaky linger. Absolutely nothing wrong with this at all, but at £75 a bottle there are better options 3.45/82

      Scent of ripe fruit, more delicate and less intrusive than Miyagikyo, a hint of citrus, a little coffee, a hint of peat and after a while a light light cereal. Well balanced and harmonious, but with many components

      On the palate it is fresh and light, the peat is decidedly more pronounced than the nose, you feel a bouquet of tropical fruit

      The finish is quite long, with a final balsamic note

    My first full bottle of Japanese whisky and some slight differences from scotch profiles I’m more used to. Bought on sale for $55 cdn (equivalent of £31) and at that price it is well worth getting, but I can’t recommend it at more than that. Extremely oily. Some peat. Fruits, but burnt. Very rounded and smooth. At 43%, it punches surprisingly above its weight. This isn’t a blended malt that I would explore complexity and nuisances with, but an enjoyable drinker to be sure.

    We are on a smooth alcohol whose only fruity note on the finish is noticeable and hard to decipher.
    Without a real defect but without any quality, it is definitely a notch below that the 12 year old.

    Colour: gold.
    Nose: sweet with sweet fruits, perfume, croissant, citrus, grass, floral, vanilla and light fruit rottenness notes.
    Mouth: sweet with caramel, fruits, light smoke, oak and muffins notes.
    Finish: middle with spices, vanilla, fruits, floral and grass notes.
    Taketsuru Pure Malt is a well balanced, smooth, simple and easy drinkable whisky. I gave 84 points.

    Interesting nose, rather typical Japanse, and quite different from Scotch malts. Quite fruity and sweet in the nose.

    The palate is quite clean and rather flat.

    The finish is very short, and not much noteworthy tastes.

    First sip or two are nice, but it is a on the taste and finish a bit too blank, making it a bit of a slightly boring dram. However, for 30€ in a French supermarket, a good price-quality ratio

    A blended malt that contains a high percentage of malt from Miyagikyo and the rest from Yoichi.

    N: After three fairly average whiskies, we may finally be in business. Here we have a deeper fruity-malt profile with some feisty [bourbon>sherry] dunnage>fungal, which signifies to me signs of proper age – and low and behold, this contains malt that is around 10 years old. More info keeps coming in: its also saltyish with oily linseeds, some airfix paint, wet quill feathers! Well rounded overall though with a slightly flat=low abv.
    T: Edgy arrival, some waxiness [mouthfeel], some bitterness, some sootiness [similar to the ‘Super’ in that way], oak, dusty caramel, dark cacao=chocolate,.. Generally a decent chewer.
    F: Caramel bitter>sweet waxy oaky<malt.
    C: Similarly priced to previous three [£55], though the best yet in terms of complexity, some form and some mouthfeel. Doesnt hold too well on returning sips however and the caramel becomes a bore.Scores a C[-]

    Ice Tea on Steroids
    Taketsuru is a blended malt composed of both Yoichi and Myagikyo malts and named after the founder of the Nikka concern, Masetaka Taketsuru. Their standard bottling used to be a 12 Year Old, but the increase in demand for Japanese malts has forced Taketsuru to drop the age statement.
    The nose is sweet and floral and rather light. I get some plums and rhubarb, but also some vanilla and a hint of coffee grounds. After a breather it becomes sweeter on caramel with some vanilla. I also smell a bit of wood.
    On the palate it is really very light, but also a bit playful, allowing the fruit to emerge. Very sweet, it has to be said. Ice tea on steroids with some cinnamon and nutmeg. Some nuts. But all in all quite bantam, if you know what I mean.
    The finish is very short and sweet. Blink and you will miss it.
    Devoid of complexity, but very quaffable.

    this is a very nice whisky. although the smell is not vey intense, the taste is making up for it, round and smooth. the finish is not very impressive but still ok. the price below eur.50,- makes it quite interesting. a nice afternoon dram.

    Leather, a bit of steel, cold stone, flinty. Quite estery with sharp
    concentrated fresh citric a slight turn off. Develop to rustic tobacco,
    wheat flour and warm pancake.

    P- Tea smokes, soft rubbery lingers along. Sour fruits, vinegar, steam rice (sushi?!) and peppery.

    F- Medium, shaved wood. Return of gingery fine spirit and echoing.

    Supposedly around the 10 year old bottlings of Miyagikyo and Yoichi. He immediately smells young, strict, needs time. The taste is better, a lot of sherry, soft after 10 minutes, round. But nothing compared to the older of Taketsuru. Would be amazing too ...

    Color: deep gold with copper reflections. Fragrance: charming, refreshing, fruity. White peach, juicy grapes. Sweet almond, marzipan and pastry notes (panettone with raisins). Taste: malted, fresh citrus notes. Coffee, licorice, toasted oak, cigar smoke. Some wood and herbs (Verveine, chamomile). Complex and varied aromas. Finish: omnipresent peat note, long-lasting.

    This was a gift from a friend who went to japan. Very nice and smooth malt.

      A lot of dried fruit in there, figs, dates, on a back drop of old Oak. Plum tomatoes and red roses linger in the back ground.

      The taste is really smooth, so smooth you could almost neck the bottle, really fruity, plumbs and red cherries come to mind.
    • Finish
      A medium dry fruity finish that has a bit of nuttiness on the death.

      Herb, oak, only subtle fruit notes, but slight Sherry notes, nuts and some tobacco.
