Benromach 2004 - 2013, finished in Sassicaia Wine Casks,
Original bottling, 45% alc. Limited to 3,600 bottles.
Nose: Raspberries, peaches and apples, a fruit cocktail opens the nose. It is followed by vanilla and caramel, also opens the peat smoke, smoldering embers goes into open campfire. At the very end opens smoked ham and bacon. ...
Palate: Smoky and fruity, less sweet than in the nose. Light citrus fruit and a hint of oak.
Finish: medium long with a sharpness that resembles the Talisker. Chili and pepper, very spicy. The fruits say good night in the background. Only a bitter grapefruit and smoke alone remain.
Conclusion: For the price a great finish, but also with a U-turn from the nose to the finish. All in all, a nice variety of flavors is offered here. Although Benromach comes from the Speyside, but is pitched. Hence the beautiful smoky notes.
