Springbank 1989 - 2002, 12 years, 54.6% alc. Original bottling (Wood Expressions). Aging: Post-aging in rum casks

Nose: Slightly acidic and pungent, tree sap and grapefruit stand out to me. In addition unripe banana and some coconut milk, I can also find vanilla fudge and ginger. I now smell lemongrass and significantly more banana, banana milk fits quite well.

Palate: Sweet, intense and slightly spicy. Bananas, oranges and grapefruit, some canned pineapple and pepper. I also taste freshly grated ginger, sea salt and a good portion of bitter almond oil, and there is also some marzipan.

Finish: Long, spicy and lots of pepper. Plus black tea and malt beer.

Conclusion: An attempt at aging in a rum barrel, but nothing more. Although the Springbank has its charms, it cannot quite pick me up. 80/100 points (2022)

Tropical and red fruit. Green wood. Bit feinty. An overall malty undertone to it all. With water: molasses, brown sugar, honey, vanilla.
    • Taste
      84 84
Springbanky, feinty malt. Spices, bittersweet. Some smokiness. With water: lower spice, different bitter.
    • Finish

Spiced Springbank. Malt, coffee beans. Long. With water: spicier.

The sweetness of the rum is expressed, but the winery gene is not obvious, the overall is simpler, and the wine body skeleton is good
    • Nose
Extremely sweet, coconut milk, brown sugar, pineapple filling, vanilla, honey, cheese, fruit brandy, citrus, grass, weak peat, a little sea breeze and minerals.
    • Taste
Table salt sets off the extra sweetness of the fruits, burnt wood, ginger, fruit baskets, rosaceae, roasted bananas, and a touch of peat.
Strong, rich in fat, sweet, slightly sour, no tannin, no astringency, slightly bitter, no spicy, no alcohol, no irritation.
    • Finish
Long-term, soy fat, salty cheese, tea, vanilla.

scbp-5432, I don't know if it is a problem with the distillation technique. It is the same as the longrow 10 around 2000. It is too salty.
    • Nose
      87 87
Milk powder, pine, mint, slightly orange juice, vanilla, grappa, asparagus, honey, and a fascinating and young aroma. 87
    • Taste
      86 86
The taste is relatively balanced, and the end is too salty. The entrance is the flavor of fruit juice, orange juice, rotten apple, syrup, banana, sour pineapple, closed with salted pepper, slightly astringent. The strength of the wine is medium to weak, the oily feel is medium, and the flavor is full. 88-84
    • Finish
      85 85
Salt, mint, fat, and tea, after the torment of table salt, the closing process went smoothly. 85

  10. The Macallan scored this whisky 77 points Connoisseur

Tasted as a work in progress at 57%. (May 1999)

    Color: white wine

Nose: Vanilla, pancake aroma`s and rum notes (reduced: malty and tropical flavors - coconut and pina colada).

Palate: Quite light, smooth and sweet (reduced: fruity/woody flavors and again some tropical rum cocktail).

Tasty and firm, with a rum like note in the back.

Comment: Finally they are back again with a nice Rum-wood expression from Springbank.

Better than I expected.  Still, no substitution for the standard.
    • Nose
Sweet and smoky. Green apples and pears. Fresh cut grass. Perhaps some brine.
    • Taste
Toasted marshmallow with banana and sweet pears. Soft toffee with Bavarian creme. The alcohol is definitely there with a presence, but not overwhelming.
    • Finish
Salty and sweet. Black pepper and cinnamon. Fairly long.
