Whisky Reviews for Braeval 1996 McG

  1. mrgood scored this whisky 80 points Expert Junior

Walking in a wide open field of daisies carrying a nice sweet jar of honey.  Like drowning in a beehive honey pool.  Unfortunately it's so faint you do practically have to swim in it to catch the fragrance.  It's hard to get to but pleasant once you get there. Opens up over time though.  Mouth is similar, but then a circus clown hit me in the face with an apple pie?

If I hadn't taken it neat I'd have sworn it was watered, which is strange at 46%.  Decent, but not distinctive nor complex enough to warrant a higher score.  Good summer dram.

Original Tasting Notes:Fragant and perfumed in a clean, honeyed / floral and earthy style on the nose. It warms to something more toffee`d, running to a full, round body and a rich palate which is sweet, hints at chocolate, is attractively smoked - something replicated on the finish plus loads off attractive spiced fruit and fruity spice.
