[October, 2004]  Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 80 Euro in April, 2004.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 92,5.  My notes state a "peat excess" and a rather shy sherry.  Dangerously quaffable...

[December, 2011]  I found this dram in an advents calendar sampled by MaRa.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 92,5.  Unfortunately I took no detailed notes.

    Serge says:
Colour: amber. Nose: bold mocha, dry sherry and smoke. Roasted peanuts. Burnt matchstick. Superb but perhaps not as stunning as the greatest sherried Ardbegs. The peat wins the fight after a few minutes, and just starts to
overwhelm the sherry, until you just forget about the latter. Mouth: very punchy. Lots of peat and smoke, with
lots of other phenolic tastes. Fusel oil, carbonised bread, chilli, pepper… beautiful. Almost no sherry on the
palate. The peat keeps going on and on. It’s just endless and almost heroic, like Beethoven's Symphony n°3 Op.55 (1st movt). 91 points (Olivier 92).

LAPHROAIG 16yo / 56.1% 1987-2004 DL OMC Bottled for The Whisky Fair Sherry and Pete with tidey iodine, lightly apricot, oily, charred smoked, slightly tropical nuances fruity aroma Iodine, pale Sherry, resinous oak, bitter taste of apricot and grapefruit, taste of black tea tannins tightening The octopus taste and body firmly, apricot from a peet accompanied by iodo, long astringent that the astringent remains firmly. Iwado and Pete who seems to be Lafroyig, the taste of Dashi system It is enough to respond with a thick body with a firm body. Shelley's nuance is well-balanced and good impression. Although there are few rough-like fruity in recent years, the bitterness of grapefruit and the tropical nuance that feels slightly tickle part (lol) It may be exactly the same as one cup of short-term battle for such a season, which can not overlap the number of cups. Whatever it is, I will tighten it with a loose blend ...
