Nose

Wow, very young. That sweet malty peat unmistakable in a 3-5 year old Islay. late. Chalk dust. Campfire. Ash. Road tar. New leather Loads of brine and iodine. There’s a fruitiness to this but it’s overpowered by the young malty notes. Can pick up hints of lychee and kumquat.

Taste

Very ashy. Sweet peat. Malt. Porridge. Honey. Lychee. Seaweed. Iodine. Some woody tannins. Again there seems to be more going on here but the young, sweet malty peat notes kind of drown everything else out.

Finish

Bitter wood. Salt, loads of salt. Soot and pitch. Sweet malty porridge. Bitter citrus. Lingering ash and smoke.

Comments

This was a little disappointing. It was made up of some very young whiskies indeed. I don’t have an issue with that in and of itself, I actually quite like very young Islay whiskies (sucker for Kilchoman) but as is I’d have to say that this is one of the rare occasions where cask strength does more harm than good.

Smoky with sweet malt. Hints of raisins, coffee and cacao. Nice but not very complex. Although strong alcohol, a pleasant aroma.

Taste

Smoke, salt, sugar and malt. Bit by bit, the fine taste of oak appears. In addition a clear flavor of hazelnuts evolves. Further, some spices or herbs accompany the slightly bitter taste of the oak barrels.

Finish

It turns into bitter oak and dark cacao. Starting from sweet malt, this whisky ends in a dry way.

Comments

Easy drinkable, although high alcohol content. The first sip tastes different to the second and third one - this makes this whisky interesting to discover. Nevertheless, I miss complexity.

Colour:

Smell:
A start, tangy, fresh and powerful whisky with aroma’s of metallic smoke, earthy tones, boiled milk, smoked cheese, barley sugar, cereals, acacia honey, soft tarry tones, maritime, minneral tones (flint), porridge, a hint of iodine, lemon zest, golden delicious apples and a distant oak tone.

Taste:
a semi-strong, sweet, restrained and mouth filling whisky with aroma’s of a somewhat sourish smoke?, margarine, grass, moss, soft medicinal tones (tar, iodine, wet Band-Aid’s), fresh apple juice, vanilla, anise seeds, cumin, bayleaf, licorice root, peper, ginger, drying tannins, old ropes, pear, cold tea and a hint of oak

Finish:
a long and slightly fatty finish with aroma’s of railway sleepers, tar, tar soap, anise seeds, dry white wine, smoke and a hint of oak.

Conclusion:
Quite a young and fierce whisky, seems a bit unbalanced and less complex than the previous two expressions. It’s quite tangy and leaves me with a slightly sour after taste. The smell and the initial sip are quite nice just the finish is not to my liking.

Marks:
7.9/10
