a bit dry, spicy, sweet and still slightly fruity - a lot of spicy oak power without bitterness

Nose: apples, pears, malt, cinnamon, oaky sweet vanilla, floral. Some citrus, tangerines? Delightful, complex and pleasant.

Flavour: the vanilla is very pronounced, together with some alcohol bite. A lot of the same as on the nose. Oily.

Finish: quite long and lingering, tapering off to pretty much just vanilla and oak.

A perfect example of an easily drinkable, American oak bourbon influenced whisky.

great malt that shows something different with each sip
    Notes from 2014-11-19 => 77/100
    • Nose
Honey, caramel, floral notes of a fresh flower meadow, mandarin, a touch of oak with a light herbal spiciness; softened with water, the alcohol recedes, malt, oak oatcakes
    • Taste
strong, flowery-sweet spice in which develops a pleasant sharpness. Again (Arkazien) honey, vanilla and pastry, slight caramel
    • Finish
slightly spicy and medium long with a slight bitterness

After tasting the upsettingly disappointing Founders Reserve and the adequate Glenlivet 12, this is a far more acceptable presentation with Nadurra keeping up it’s solid reputation as a very decent range. This is all round good stuff with form, balance, complexity and mouthfeel.

One of a few examples [Aberlour A’bunadh also], where the NAS releases are equal to or outperforming the standard aged releases - but let’s not let our guard’s down for a minute.

    Nose:
Lavender parfume, vanilla. Some tannine, marzipan. Hints of honey. With water: The same but less rough edges, I can recommend around 10% extra water.

    Taste:
Full-on vanilla, some tannins, wood, toffee, liqourice.

    Body: Full and creamy

Finish: Medium-long. Again some tannins, vanilla and toffee. Hint of honey again.

Price: I bought it for €50,- which is very fair.

Presentation: Some marketing pr on the back, but it's not overdone.

Comments: This is a very good and well balanced whisky. I usually don't like the tannins in my whisky, but here they are quite complementairy.

Hot diggity daffodil, is this actually Glenlivet? It's leagues above the 12 and 18 year olds. The nose is wonderfully intense, the mouth feel is thick and the finish makes my stomach tingle and my eyes water. Another impressive feat is that it seems to constantly improve since I opened the bottle.
    • Nose
Thick vanilla, massive marzipan, oranges and lemons, warm apple pie and freshly cut wood.
    • Taste
Vanilla, honey, bitter-sweet, lemon oil, sweet red apples, barley.
    • Finish
Charred wood, liquorice, marzipan, pears, light smoke, dark chocolate, flowery perfume, rather long.

Very enjoyable cask strength single malt at a reasonable price. I added 3-4 teaspoons of water to really open it up with great results
    • Nose
Mint, spearmint chew sweets, vanilla, eucalyptus, Vicks vapour rub, crystalized pineapple
    • Taste
Creamy vanilla, oak, woody, eucalyptus, barley sugar
    • Finish
      Long finish on barley sugar
