Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1997 WM
7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.57 points
- Note by Wilson & Morgan;
Similarly to our sister bottling at 46% of Cask#6491, this is a very classically styled Clynelish which shows the true beauty of this malt without the oak overpowering the spirit. So once again we have a very clean, malty, waxy and mineral whisky, with a precise and pure profile. What makes this bottling slightly different is that it’s even more intense, and that it also offers a touch of liquorice and propolis. It has an initially slightly sweeter profile on the palate (due to a probably slightly more active bourbon cask), but then it reverts to a subtly sour and appetizing note. Finally it lingers in the mouth with a moderately tannic and peppery aftertaste. An equally timeless old-fashioned Clynelish, but with a slightly different twist.
- This whisky just keeps changing since I got it in my glass.
Wonderful evolution from fruity to nutty smells.
Nice full body, no too harsh on the spices and wood.
Complementary peatiness in the finish.
Young, full of flavor and evolving from nice to a very nice whisky indeed.
Thumbs up for Wilson & Morgan for selecting this cask.
- N: Lime, honey, vanilla, caramel, beeswax, galia melon, tangerine and grass. Tobacco leaves in the empty glass.
T: Honey, lime, vanilla, caramel, tangerine, grass and pear. Plus hints of clay and leather.
F: First honey, lime, vanilla and kiwi. But then changing towards almond, melon and clay. A bit musty.
