the prototype of a malthur that desperately needs water to open up - for me, no classic 70s style to recognize, while very own, not overly complex, but very delicious and intense - so a bit of a bully - like me :)
    • Nose
Clear, clean, floral, malt, oak tones, baking cocoa, then rather rumrosines - very closed and slightly alcoholic - we try water: earthy, dirty, very dark sherry notes that remind me of rum, but are not dark berries, cough syrup, Arnica tincture, Magenbitter - he gets much fatter and oily
    • Taste
slightly alcoholic, very warm, sweet and fine, rumrosins, rumrosins, rumrosines ... Rumnraubennussschokolade, marzipan bread with dark chocolate and rose water, cocoa with cinnamon and a dash of amaretto, orange peel even diluted to less than 50% still slightly alcoholic - very beautiful oak notes - the lining of the mouth increasingly dry - cough syrup, sage tea, geranium leaves, citrus notes, crystalline lemon
    • Finish
Raisins, chocolate, rum, dry - waxy oak bakers - very long - in its own special way

I wanted the vintage something old-bottle flavor. The smell is for me the most interesting thing about the malt - fresh, floral with a nice acidity and yet the certain age of the Athol is recognizable. He is special, yet the flavors are not quite my prey scheme.

A very nice Speyside as I do like it a lot. On the noze, you can directly feel you are getting to a special dram. The finish leaves a very Nice aftertaste of Smoke, surprising. Lots of floral flavors and waxiness also. A dram to be tried.

[September, 2005]  Finally I finished bottle no. 2704 that I bought for 60,50 Euro in July, 2005.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  I took no notes.

I would not have expected a 27 year old so stormy. Ok, Cask Strength, 54% vol ... but still ...

A dram that you should certainly try several times!
    • Nose
Dark in color, amber (you did not see it through the bottle).
Odor: nice sweet, honey but also quite alcoholic. The first sniff pokes a bit, but you get used to it.
    • Taste
Bääähm! ... definitely has a bite! The oak is there, the seasoning too. Very spicy. Chili Catch? Talisker? Nah no ... THIS HAS THE CHILI Catch! Under the whole power comes the sweetness, honey, vanilla.

The whole with water then becomes much more harmonious. The spiciness remains, the sweetness plays on. I like it much better than 50%
    • Finish
Laaang very long. Warming. The oak, or even a distinct bitterness lingers for a long time and the pepper on the tongue slowly fades away.
