This Clynelish is a real contradiction in terms: time Sherryfass (would type in a refill), sometimes Clynelish, sometimes together, then alone again. Very oblique, but very exciting bottling. With a bit of water everything seems to come together and it becomes a very tasty sherry malt, but without water I find it much more exciting. No idea if there is still the hunt somewhere to hunt (I only discovered it last year at Weltfein in Hannover), but the value stated in the base of 85 € has definitely. Without water a recommendation for those who love weird fillings, with water a very palatable malt.
    • Nose
Sweet raisins, apricots, honey and toffee appear first in front of my nose and bring along an old leather sandal in tow. After a few minutes wet grass and oak show up. Only when I stretch my nose almost to the bottom of the glass and really take a deep breath, the alcohol shows up, which seems very well integrated.
    • Taste
The Clynelish pops a nose after the nose completely surprising first powerful fruit, spices and minerals on the tongue. I expected something much smarter than that. Pepper, lemongrass, wet gravel combined with honey, daisies, bitter orange marmalade and tangerines - to dry properly. Wild mess on the tongue and definitely a sherry keg in the game, but far from the typical sherry finish.
    • Finish
Long and spicy with dark chocolate and oak, as dry as dust on the tongue. Amazingly little sweetie.

    Very tasty and just good
    • Nose
Pleasant sherry. Sweet, cooked fruits. Some leather develops, with a hint of tobacco. Everything was very pleasant and round. Almost nothing to feel for alcohol. With some time in the glass comes a woody smell, like an older oak drawer from a dresser. In the background is a light citrus note.
    • Taste
Strong start. Buzzle on the tongue and immediately makes a sweetness that makes the cheeks creamy full. A spicy note, followed by citrus fruits comes after. Nice interplay from sweet to spicy, sour.
    • Finish
      Medium long with dark chocolate

overall a bit sharp, needs some water
    • Nose
peat, brown sugar, some ashes, pepper, malty, honey, forest fruit, gooseberries, liquorice, oily, nuts, leather and butter - fudge
    • Taste
wax, spices - pepper, orange, forest fruits - winey, some peat, honey, floral and with water more bees wax
    • Finish

  7. Toffie76 scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

I really liked the opening with a good dose of water ... Attention easy drinkable, until the éceurement (or the end of the bottle)
    • Nose
Fruit compote, dried fruits (apricots, figs, dates), grapes, confectionery, leather, wood. A beautiful sherry profile, well balanced.
    • Taste
Complex! Start in strength. A real fruity bomb, spicy notes, woody, very playful. Many honeyed notes, wax, heather, a little Highland Parkesque in some points. Wow, what a funny adjective! The development is rich and long. A covering and powdery sensation is noticed at the end of the mouth. Like a 90% chocolate. Undiluted, herbaceous notes show with aeration.
    • Finish
A little mineral touch, and the persistence of fruity. Long and round. A lot of toffee, too.

    A very worthy
Clynelish for a fair price (85 EUR).
    • Nose
      It begins on dried
fruit, which makes me think this was a sherry cask. That info cannot be found
on the label, so I might be mistaken. Coconut, sultanas, roasted almonds.
Beeswax and soft leather. Less outspoken than earlier Clynelish that I have
tasted from the same bottler. Soft nose, actually. Hay and lemon grass, some
green potpourri. Honey and toffee make it pretty sweet. Grapefruit is there
    • Taste
      It dances on the
palate and offers some spices (pepper, ginger, nutmeg and mustard seeds)
immediately, along with loads of citrus. Grapefruit, mandarin, lemon zest. A
bit of resin. Crystal sugar with a hint of espresso. Yes, this was almost
      certainly a sherry cask.
    • Finish
      The finish, which is
medium long and dry, gives a nice hint of peat and oak.

It lets itself drink like whey, I feel like I can copy / paste, level sensation provided, Glenrothes 1988/2013 Daily Dram.
Very good, very playful, very enthusiastic.
    • Nose
Clearly a refill sherry nose (and color too, by the way). Almond paste, the typical Clynelish varnish, a touch of minerality. Sweet / woody.
    • Taste
A fruit fondant with a pinch of salt, it flows alone. A little spicy at the end of the tongue. Yellow fruit sauce (peach, apricot).
    • Finish
A hint of woody bitterness and drought. The finish is a little behind the rest, it could have been a little longer and less bitter to be perfect and in harmony with the mouth.
