I'm actually disappointed by this bottle. It's not that it's bad, but nor is it as good as I had read it was. Might just be a bad batch, no idea. But, it just feels weak, slightly rushed, and like it's been stored in basically dead casks with no juice left. Sure, there's hint of greatness in there, but it's hidden by layers of mediocrity. A shame since I've tried some really excellent single cask variants from Glenfarclas.
    • Nose
Thin sherry, orange marmalade, honey, hints of vanilla, nail polish remover, raw alcohol, brown sugar, might be there's a few red berries hidden in it. Reminds me of cheap chocolate filled with liquor. Isn't the sherry bomb I expected.
    • Taste
Very very thin sherry notes, a very subtle taste of red berries, stale tired wood, weak honey, bitter orange marmalade, not decidedly unpleasant but there's definitely a nip from the raw alcohol. Doesn't really coat the mouth in any way.
    • Finish
Very very short, except for a lingering taste of bitter orange marmalade with alcohol.

Contributed from March 2017 Sherry fruit bomb of strongly oaky, sour-tart whipped cream. Personally too intense and not round, nevertheless 84 points because the fruit flavors fallen.
    • Nose
Coffee, passion fruit, dry-fruity-spicy oak. Pomegranate. A little vanilla. Red apples. Forest honey. Bitter chocolate. Over time creamy, direction cocoa, yogurt, malt, cinnamon, cardamom.
    • Taste
slow start, but then strong. Acid, fruity, tingling, dry, with a little fruity sweetness. Oak clearly noticeable. Dry apple, passion fruit, pale ale. Something floral, perfumed.
    • Finish
spicy, cinnamon, cardamom, a little spicy hot, ginger direction. Something dry. Oak-heavy. Pineapple. Furry.

A very intense standard range of Glenfarclas. By the for me higher sherry portion and also in the structure and body for me clear and far ahead. Also clearly outshines the 8, 10, 12, 17, 18, 25 and also today the 21er.
Fits in every bar and offers a lot for the money. I would be delighted if Glenfarclas maintains this bottle policy!

Our favourite expression of Glenfarclas is the 15-year-old, which is profound,
rounded, complex and balanced in a way that serves as a master-class in how
Sherried Scotch whiskies should be presented. Very sweet on the nose, oloroso
Sherry, warm leather, ginger, malt, dates and raisins, plus developing vanilla
and American cream soda notes. Becoming a little drier and more liquorice-like
with time. Smooth, substantial and insinuating on the palate, subtly spicy, with
Jaffa oranges, hazelnuts and very gentle, smoky peat. Medium to long in the
finish, with soft oak and dark chocolate notes. Immensely well ?mannered, and a
great whisky for those evenings by the fireside when the cold of winter reminds
us that spring is still some time away.
