    Freshly opened bottle. 88 points
    • Nose
      86 86
Slightly like damp wood in the cellar. delicate citrus,
slightly bitter, despite 40% it has a powerful effect.
    • Taste
      88 88
Delicately sweet, honey, slowly coming grapefruit.
      Becomes viscous in the mouth.
    • Finish
      90 90
Grapefruit, bitter-sweet, delicately bitter wood spices.

    Freshly arrived.
Has been a few years since we opened the 21/2014.
Let's see what the 2013 says.
    • Nose
      92 92
Nuttiness, grapefruit, spices (oriental spice bazaar, Mediterranean herbs like thyme, tarragon, lovage [others simply say Maggi]), celery, citrus, mint, dried plums, raisins
and again and again a hint of light sourness (but not from fermented fruits)
Fresh, fruity and yet heavy, massive in the other aromas.

Warmed up, a whiff of incense comes towards me; reserved but recognizable. And then, boom, the spices explode. Like exploring the herb garden and then lying around in the dry grass/hay.

Conclusion: very complex whiskey with complex aromas.
In the beginning thin and you search, but then warmed up the aromas explode focused on spices and herbs.
    • Taste
      91 91
      Soft, very soft.
Immediately creamy (sloppy), nutty, sweet, grapefruit, plum (hmm? Sherry), passion fruit, honey, vanilla (subtle), roasted aromas (hint), slightly acidic.

At first you think - hmm watery, but then with the first sip the fruits and spices come into their own. And then, the passion fruit and grapefruit (sweet/bitter, what a great combination)
    • Finish
      89 89
Long fruitiness (passion fruit vs. grapefruit).
No tannins! (at least for me)
      Sherry, vanilla, hint of chocolate.

But vs. nose and taste - clearly not so dominant.

    • Taste
Light and delicate, sweet, fruity, milk chocolate, wine, vanilla, some cinnamon and oak
    • Finish
Medium length, milk chocolate, wine, turns into the bitterness of oak

Thin, less aromatic than the 16. Caramel, cranberry, lime and a little hazelnut.
    • Taste
      87 87
More Cooley style, the peach and marshmallow 'foam blocks'. Orange, caramel and hazelnut.
    • Finish
      87 87
Peach, marshmallow and a little caramel.

Some very classic and enjoyable Irish notes, but it’s a little too syrupy and sweet.
    • Nose
      87 87
Grassy, juicy, copper, kiwi juice, grain alcohol, Peaches in syrup. Fat, sweet, syrupy nose.
    • Taste
      85 85
Juicy, peaches in syrup, kiwi, apricots, lychee, vanilla flavouring, tin, very sweet - towards artificial. Splenda
    • Finish
      84 84
Fruit cup, grassy, nectarine, kiwi, peach, syrupy - bordering cloying. Syrupy sweetness lingers

  12. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Very Irish, typical Bushmills. Reminds me of the 16, just a little spicier. Fits everything, age noticeable. Delicious whiskey. However, rather easy drinking, not too miserable malt. But it does not always have to be.
    • Nose
Very sweet in the nose, typical Busmills Irish, the aroma is clear. The nice thing is that a very delicious and spicy oak note accompanies the sweetness. The age is noticeable.
    • Taste
In the mouth a nice balance of sweetness and spice, typical Bushmills note, somehow vinous, sweet, without being vinous.
    • Finish
Medium length, seasoning, oak and a nice sweetness.

    • Nose
      noble smell, dark berries, Christmas spices and Madeira wine;
    • Taste
      grapes, honey, spice cake, dark chocolate, a little vanilla;
    • Finish
      long-lasting, harmonious warm finish,

That's really something else. Very light, fresh, sweet and despite the "only" 40% not too thin. Reminds me in the taste of sweet herbal lime. I suppose that if you stay longer, I might discover some notes of bright fruits away from grapes and pears. If you like this style, you will enjoy it.
    • Nose
A spring flower meadow. And a very decided sweetish note. Is already a very own mixture; At 21 years old, drum notes are usually more audible, here the age makes itself felt in a tender furniture policy note for me.
    • Taste
This Bushmill is really different: Very sweet, now the furniture polish stands out and yes, there are some ripe light grapes and some pear as well. All very soft, 40% are not much; Even very delicate cheese flavor mixes with the sweetness, which is still dominated by the furniture polish of an old wardrobe.
    • Finish
The finale is short and remains sweet, very slightly cheese-aromatic and furniture polish-dominated.

  17. rb854 scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Tasteful and powerful despite the 40% ABV. Unfortunately the body is quite thin.
    • Nose
Sweet and full, vanilla, honey, malt, fruity and spicy, wood, toffee, peach, oranges, cinnamon. A whiff of nutmeg and figs.
    • Taste
Reasonably thin with quite a lot of taste, espresso, pepper, peaches, oranges, some bitterness, wood, chocolate, nutmeg, cinnamon, lemon, honey and something menthol-like.
    • Finish
Lemons, honey with a whiff of mint, peaches and chocolate.

Tasty and typically Irish. You can just chuck it away. I like it, but it just has too few percent to be intense enough.
    • Nose
fresh grass clippings, yellow fruits, mirabelles, lemons, mango, pineapple, green bananas, light honey, light chocolate, minimal smoke, parsley
    • Taste
soft, velvety, slightly watery, ginger, cinnamon, medium dark chocolate, green bananas, mango, lemon, light grapes, green tea, almonds, olive oil, para- and pecans, butter biscuits
    • Finish
almost medium-long, spicy-warming, with dark chocolate, ginger and nuts, then again the grass clippings, the banana and some cappuccino ...

A significant increase to the 16er. But the start is too watery again. The finish is then much more filigree and complex than the 16er

  21. Xaver did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Very mild and tasty. Tasty part.
    • Nose
The colleague starts very fruity and sweet. First thought was then Edelmarzipan Taler with plum in Madeira (Have a snack, checked directly :-)). Ripe, juicy apricot, blueberry and pear. Spices and a trace of leather. The wächsener body is becoming clearer. A light citrus note comes to the front and brings something fresh, such as menthol.
    • Taste
Mild, sweet, oily onset. The fruits are already very ripe. Dark chocolate and a slightly bitter nuttiness. The citrus notes bring in a subtle spiciness. Caramel follows nicely.
    • Finish
Medium. Sweet, creamy with dark chocolate.

    • Nose
Red fruits, grapefruit, meadow, bell pepper
    • Taste
      Oak, grapefruit, cloves, caramel, chocolate
    • Finish
Long, more than you would expect at 40%

He can do something. The flavors are beautifully matched, nothing is in the foreground, everything very harmonious, very soft. And although he is so soft, he gives a nice variety of taste impressions, which then continue until the departure.
    • Nose
A nose that smells of early summer. Flowering honey, the smell of a cut nectarine, apricot pulp, mango slices. The fruitiness will come from the Madeira barrel.
    • Taste
Full and creamy. Thick as fruit buttermilk, while pleasantly mild on the tongue. The fruits from the nose also appear on the tongue. Mild curry spice, a little rosemary, some mint. Hardly malt, but pleasant oak aroma.
    • Finish
In the finish, which is quite long for a 40%, the malt is a little stronger and becomes a toffee candy. Apricot and nectarine are preserved for a long time.

  25. domani scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

An excellent, mild and harmonious single malt. Silky soft and very consistent - 02.05.2015
    • Nose
Fruity, grape, rum, chocolate, toffee, gravy
    • Taste
      Sweet, toffee, raisins, spicy, oak
    • Finish
      Lang

  26. autowatch092 scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    Colour: Dark amber
Nose: Fresh peaches, dried apricots, mango, vanilla, butterscotch, polished wood, hints of nutmeg.
    Palate: Exactly like the nose.
Finish: Very long and very fruity.
Overall: Even the low bottling strength cannot detract from the massive fruitiness of this dram. This at cask strength would be very hard to beat.
