  1. dhillworth scored this whisky 88 points Expert Junior

    • Nose
      88 88
Quite a shy nose, needs some time to open up and yet stays subtle, old leathery, dusty
    • Taste
      86 86
quite a punch, subtle is a word of the past now
    • Finish
      90 90
interesting finish, developing into a whole array of flavours, lingers long

  2. Dre73 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Nice sherried whisky, with the 'nose' being even better than body and finish. Very good Macduff botteling for sure.
    • Nose
      89 89
Some clear sherrycask influences, coffee, leather (couch), prunes, a bit of sulphur, nice full 'nose'. Later on more fruitier, lighter, apples, peach and chocolate.
    • Taste
      87 87
Full, some pepper, heavy and pretty intense, prunes, some coffee and chocolate, also some pure chocolate bitterness. And some honey.
    • Finish
      87 87
Still a lot of pepper, prunes, coffee-like, honey. Later on a little bitterness comes underneath, pretty long, some tobacco as well.

  7. Calmar scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Excellent, classic unsweetened sherry mole, very soft, dense, the sweetness is very mild, excellent balance, perfect work with the fortress.
    • Nose
Restrained, dry, definitely sherry barrel, Oloroso most likely, dry land, dried mushrooms, tea pu er, crackers, light sulfur notes, burnt matches, old dusty all-wood furniture, unsweetened prunes, dried apples, burnt Bengal lights.
    • Taste
Dense, saturated, tart, woody-lacquered with raisins and prunes, sweetness of dried fruits, leavard, light metal sour, bitter grits of sugar and burnt biscuits, bergamot.
    • Finish
Light, sweet and sour, prunes, raisins, black tea, grilled sugar, rye rusks.

  8. WhiskyLovingPianist did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

N: Salty, mint sauce freshness, woody, yeasty, dusty, orange flapjack wood and forest hues.  Thick concentrated nose, buttered egg on toast
T: Ewww, bitter, savoury tomato soup arrival, a touch sulphury but not negatively so, thick and woody turning to prune juice. Green bitter notes, very woody, wood heat covering the palate - long development at this stage as the spirit fights through the cask. Water helps alot to create some cohesion, otherwise its a scrappy affair
F: Sweeter sherried fruits finally come through with a dry woody witch-hazel nuttiness to finish
C: The arrival improved over time but this is a rough old dog from start to finish.  It has potential throughout but overall a bit duff

    Scores a C

  9. Bishlouk scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Rhooo that's good! The shivers are slow to arrive, but after 3 sips they are there!
    • Nose
Whipped plum, dates and cooked figs, gingerbread. Cabinet dust infiltrates at times. Scent of orange zest.
    • Taste
Salinity surrounds candied fruit (apricot, orange). Full of Christmas spices. Honey caramel and brown sugar.
    • Finish
Long finish on the salt and the coulis of cooked and sweet yellow and black fruits. Heat permeates the mouth and throat, and stays there.
