Whisky Reviews for Bowmore 2002 MoS

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 85.50 points

  1. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

different, easier than the Tempest. In the nose that fits well, because the fruit is nicely worked out. In the mouth it gets a bit thin and water is not so good, although you have to add something, otherwise it is too hot in the mouth.
    • Nose
sweet and fruity, citrus, bright fruit, clean peat, a slightly herbaceous bowmore note. Clearly straightforward and less oak-accented than the Tempest. With water, the fruit comes even clearer. Nice, if light nose.
    • Taste
a bit hot, unfortunately needs some water. With water then peat, oak, a hint of fruit, some pepper, nothing special, as Bowmore on the basis of peat characteristics recognizable.
    • Finish
Peat, ash, quite dry, no fruit, some oak and peat.

  2. Albaron scored this whisky 84 points Specialist

The smoke comes first in the mouth, the nose is dominated by the alcohol, only later the other flavors come to bear, very ashy and again the green immature notes that others often refer to as a violet note. I find that mostly in Irish again. There are worse Bowmore, but I still will not become a friend of this distillery.
    • Nose
as first alcohol, then slightly malty, some toffee, solvents, finally the green iris notes, immature cereals, some menthol, mint and lemon
    • Taste
strong onset, alcohol, finally some smoke, ashen, toffee and menthol / mint. Some malt and finally the green notes again
    • Finish
Here the smoke is still present, the ashes and in the background a little tannins from the oak

    An honest Bowmore for
    an honest price (60 EUR).
    • Nose
      It is surprisingly
malty and reminds me mostly of white bread. The peat is pretty discreet, but
the citrus, which I expect in (mostly young) Bowmore, is conspicuous in its
absence. It takes more than five minutes before a slice of lemon shines
through. Touch of salt, too. This is an odd one. I even tends towards new make
a bit. Which is not to say that I do not like the nose on this one. Au
      contraire.
    • Taste
      On the palate, I
cannot get rid of the association with new make. Very spicy (white pepper,
ginger, liquorice). Midpalate, all kinds of citrus struggle through. Lemon,
lime. Drop of olive oil, pinch of salt. Becomes wonderfully sweet, though. The
white bread does remain in the fore. Breadcrumbs. Peat.
    • Finish
      It has a long, warm,
sweet finish in which the citrus has the final say.
