  1. Dre73 scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

pleasant whisky, somewhat out of balance: In the scent still fresh fruitiness, which in the body and finish no longer comes back.
    • Nose
Very fruity and fresh, lots of citrus, vanilla, honey, floral.
    • Taste
Light peppers, fruity but now more peach / apricot, honey and caramel. No more that freshness from the smell.
    • Finish
Pepper still, reasonably long, wood tones, sweet, honey, caramel.

This limited edition shows the fresh lively sweet character of Arran.
Well put together, very tasty and full-bodied. It’s predominatly the
bourbon casks doing the talking here. A quartet of freshness, richness,
fruit and spiced oak - like an exhilarating walk in an orchard garden.
    Well done folks!

    https://www.facebook.com/whisky.connaisseur/
    • Nose
Fresh and very fruity on the nose with classic notes of apples, peaches
and apricots. On top of that, vanilla fudge along with cereal notes
emerge, followed by butterscotch and slightly bitter orange peel. The
alcohol is present and bites a bit, but not pungent at all.
    • Taste
Oh yes - this is pleasantly sweet and lovely fruity with apples,
peaches, apricots and banana. Warming with lots of lingering spices -
oak, cinnamon, and ginger. Very mouth coating, creamy, with sticky notes
of heather honey, barley sugar and a slightly dry whiff of cocoa
      towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish is long and warming, with a silky soft and fruity end,
followed by lingering crisp spiced oak and tender lime juice on the
      tail.

WITH WATER: Water tames a bit of the alcoholic bite in the
nose bringing more yellow fruitiness, lovely mixed with sweet vanilla to
the fore. Sweet and fruity on the palate with slightly more prickling
spiced oak on the tongue. The finish is long, sweet and warm, gripping
      and gently drying.

In 2014 it was available in Germany for around € 74.00 - an acceptable price for a very good Millennium Bottling!
A great symbiosis of ex-bourbon and sherry barrel matured malts!

Cute whisky. No wow effect, but sound.
    • Nose
      88 88
Fruit chewing gum, marmalade, candied fruit, some greens and vegetables, milk toffee, condensed milk, honey, orange jam, lemon peel, a hint of a marine theme, smoked fish, grilled fish, mineral, seaweed, black bread, white grapes, m 'overripe apricot, salted, vanilla, peach, raw dough, curd. The initial candy dessert is gradually giving way to the marine profile.
    • Taste
      87 87
Again dessert, juicy beginning, meaty in development, pepper, strict, restrained style, caramel, citrus spice (lemon and orange peel). Degree is felt by pressure, but it is easy to drink.
    • Finish
      85 85
Warms, pepper, oak, with vanilla, medium, continues citrus theme to taste, noticeably dry (I do not really like this dryness).

But quite strong alcohol, which slips into the peppery, that is a bit disturbing, plus a strong acidity. But otherwise delicious. The citrus notes and maltiness are very convincing and fun. A delicious whisky that is fun and not just a marketing gag.
    • Nose
Alcohol sharpness, then tangerine, lemon, some herbs, quite acidic and dry also a bit mineral
    • Taste
the pungency also dominates here, peppery, tangerine, slightly acidic. Fairly dry, also the minerality from the nose, in between always a few herbs and slightly bitter, as well as a honey note and strong maltiness.
    • Finish
Tangerine also swings into the finish, plus tannins and a hint of oiliness

This dram starts softly and ends strongly, even too much. Nice smells and sensations but a bit unbalanced

Blind tasting notes from homemade Advent 2017 Calendar, gentle gift of friends
    • Nose
Mild: yellow flowers, in particular daisy and mimosa
    • Taste
Dense and delicate. Taste of Zuppa Inglese (italian cake made of custard and sponge cake)
    • Finish
Medium, with predominance of alcohol. Not mild anymore

I like it alot, it is quite personal with the savoury notes and herbliquer/bitter booze-side that is combined with a clear sweet fruitiness. Nearly an 88 in my book.
    • Nose
At first a bit parfumy, stingy sweet and boozy notes, then raki (the turkish anise booze), sweet and pungent, homemade cream-candy, liquorice, dates, some seaweed and faint farmy notes, overripe banana, orange.
    • Taste
Fruity salmiak, especially in the direction of ripe pear and tangerine, then mango, honeydew, Becherovka (the czech herbal bitter), a clear hint of clam, sweetish.
    • Finish
Fruity dry, melony. Quite long, pleasant.

I was able to write down quite a lot of aromas and flavors, but Arran not convinced me to establish the long friendship. Not in my taste.
    • Nose
Mandarins, damson plum, quince, a blend of flowers, candies, melon (smell of glue to stick models), bananas.
    • Taste
Sour and slight touch of vanilla at the beginning, later - perceptible oak, honey, some fresh hay
    • Finish
Light, sweet flavor, whole grains, pumpkin seeds

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Big notes of fresh grain and a pinch of spice.
Palate: Zesty orange, baked apples and a sparkling sprinkle of cinnamon.
Finish: A fresh, bright finish which grows slightly woody near the end.
Overall: Let's hope we don't have to wait until the next Millennium to get another dram like this.

  36. Thermidor scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

A very good release from Arran that should make any friend of their usual style happy. Hard fruit candy, some fudge and some sherry notes that only seem to come up after adding some water.

Tasting Notes by Arran; Nose: The nose is lively and on the other hand with an edge of spice palate: candied citrus catches your tongue immediately taking you back to the characteristics of Arran with orchard fruit and baked apples. A sprinkling of vanilla and cinnamon adds a layer of sweet spices and oaks to the first fruity character. A splash of water opens it beautifully, exposing the layers of creaminess in this unique dram.

Finishing: Clean and fresh with a hint of spice, this classic Arran is fine. Notes of tangerines and grapefruit blend beautifully with the last twist of roasted oak promises another perfectly balanced sip.

  38. Magnus Hillman scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

    This is a great dram!

    (Rating interval 85-89)
    • Nose
Slightly closes, vanilla and caramel from the bourbon casks. Some pear, banana, malt sweetness and mint. Mustard seeds and glue (the one used when gluing plastic air plane models as a kid).
    • Taste
The arrival is sweet and powerful (talking Springbank power), it is followed by a more bitter-sweet development with pepper, an oily texture, coleman's powdered mustard, and wood spice. With water more sweet lime arrives.
    • Finish
Lemon pepper, licorice, nutmeg some bitter sour citrus. With water, some lime leaf, bitter honey, raw sugar and lime juice at the back of the tongue.

  39. molar3rd scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Nose: A very nice classic textbook sort of Arran, like we’ve grown accustomed to like : Fresh, with apples, on top of vanilla fudge, some summer fruit as well, creamy and malty with cereal and a zingy zesty note as well. The Alcohol bite needs a bit of time to subside, and a bit of water will do this dram justice, so do not fear to add a few drops.

Palate: A warming and mouth coating entry, at Cask strength mind you! I love the feel of that on the palate. Creamy and buttery with mild fruit, malt and hint of cocoa powder.

    Finish: Vanilla, apples, apricots, wood.

    Conclusion:

It’s a lovely dram mind you, maybe lacks the finesse of the 16 year old, but what it lacks in finesse it compensate with body, it’s big bodied and feels lovely on the palate. As I’ve stated before it does benefit quite a bit from water.A just cause and a just dram. Buy one and help the Arran fund (and it’s good stuff too!). Be quick, as there are not a lot of bottles, and available only on the Arran site.

Quite nice but a little inbalanced in my opinion.
    • Nose
Pungent alcohol at first. Behind that very fresh fruits. Green apples and citrus.  Bourbon butts obviously quite dominant. On top a hint of sherry. Little vanilla and caramel though. Would have expected some more. Then again there is this spicy and salty(?) aroma that I wouldn´t have expected at all.
    • Taste
Smooth and gentle till the alcohol kicks in. Vanilla and caramel getting stronger. Some sweetness. Quite some rich oak now. Appears more mature now. Also the sherry comes more to the fore now.
    • Finish
Partly dry and quite malty. Oak and almonds lingering on.

I.m.o. this whisky lacks some complexicity.
    • Nose
Vanilla, butter, butter candy, butter cake, some floral, barley and grassy notes in the back.
    • Taste
Peppery, butter candy, some licorice, some citrus.

Some 'sticky' / buttery mouth feel.
    • Finish
Medium long, medium dry mouth feel after a while.
Again butter candy and a little licorice.

Tingling on the tongue and dark chocolate pulls over the tongue. The slight bitterness is there.

The term "chili catch" used for mild Whiskies like "Talisker 10" means that the spiciness of this whisky should be explained with words like "atomic blast" or "galactic tongue burner" .

It's not the alcohol that disturbs the relish. It's pretty okay to drink it neat.
All the terror comes from the wood spices.

It is highly recommended to put and keep a fire extinguisher next to the bottle. This one should be savoured only by skilled fireworkers.

What a pity that all the nice aroma stays back behind the atomic spice blast.
Too much for me today, but, as always I'll give it a 2nd and 3rd try.

Sorry, today only 75 points for that odd experience with 5 points already included because of the mere hope of a better 2nd try. Experience made out of a 0.1 ltr. sample

    Colour: gold.

Nose: very nice and "fresh" with tastes of citrus and spices.

Taste: rather fruity, citrusy, apples and pears. Then my tastebuds discover vanilla, cinnamon and wood;with two drops of water the taste becomes richer, more creamy(ish!). This whisky has a very nice finish, again with some hints of spices. And as a "nice gift" lovely tastes of mandarins, grapefruit and the smell of an open oakfire :-)

    • Nose
Orange liquor, marzipan, vanilla, lime, caramel, fig and currant. With water some peanut.
    • Taste
Orange, caramel, citrus, tangerine, sugared almond, vanilla, fig, mocha, clove and smoke (not peat). The caramel creaminess becomes more prominent when allowing it to breathe for a few minutes and really explodes when adding a few drops of water.
