Whisky Reviews for Mortlach 1989 ED

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.46 points

  1. lachaineduwhisky did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Caramel, berries, subtle oak. Some alcoholic notes make a task! It will take two additions of water so that it becomes acceptable and let express the fruity of this Mortlach. In the mouth, we have a bit the same problem. Pure, we already have sweetness, caramel and a feeling of maturity that will be completed after adding water with vanilla and a real mellow that will be prolonged by a nice fruitiness in the finish.

    Enthusiasm 3/5

Take your time to taste it; both the nose and the mouth gain greatly. Thanks to Ludo for the sample.
    • Nose
Rather sweet despite a low alcohol, with a nice creamy material. Nose melted and well balanced: plant aromas (flowers, plants and herbs), fruit compote (garden and exotic), heather honey, sweet spices (vanilla).
    • Taste
Powerful and perfectly integrated mouth. A "waxy" base on which develop beautiful notes mainly vegetable and fruity, with a touch of mint and fragrant spices (vanilla, cinnamon, sweet pepper). Far and diaphanous riff of smoked compost in the final.
    • Finish
Persistent, round and rich on a declination of the mouth with a hint of vegetal bitterness.

n: rather spicy profile with malt and nuts, chocolate and pipe tobacco.
leather and furniture. there is also a fruity side in the background to
make it more appealing. orange and grapefruit peels I would say,
together with pine sap and moss. this one surely needs time to reveal
        its quality.
t:  creamy mouthfeel with a mighty attack even when diluted.
again these nuts together with nutmeg and cloves, again the chocolate
or cocoa, the fruity side remains in the background, a few baked peaches
together with crystallized oranges and limes. you should not sip this one neat.

f:  long to very long, very spicy
comments: a little austere but I like it very much, you need to give it time. a little  too alcoholic when sipped neat.89/100

Very unbalanced on alcohol, all-purpose taste without any particularity.

(tasted with a crowded nose, so not in ideal conditions)
