Not drunk for a long time, and I'm surprised and find it really tasty, I remembered him as rather boring, Laphi in soft-washed, without eggs. Maybe I was not ready for that at the time. Looking back, the under 50 € were of course a great price. Currently ... we forget it.
    • Nose
intense, but very mild and round (for Laphi), the in-house disinfectant note is of course there, but holds back a bit, to menthol, what a fruity (apple / pear compote) and a little rotten wood
    • Taste
Wow, here too fruit on the tip of the tongue, gummy bears, mint, then salt, pepper, sweet caramel and bitter ashes
    • Finish
long, salt, pepper, ashes, cough drops, kamillan

Funny how for this release some tubes have 'single islay malt' printed on them, whilst others have it as 'islay single malt'. To the best of my knowledge, both date from 2006 - 2009.

This has some old style characters, but the recent release Cairdeas 15 Year Old is in the same league.
    • Nose
Grape, light peat, more fruity than the recent releases.
    • Taste
Peat and citrus fruits, sweet and buttery, mint and slightly bitter, the mouthfeel is a little bit watery.
    • Finish
Medium to long, sweet peat and golden apple

F: dark gold - copper N: phenol: iodine, medically dominant, fresh mint, yellow fruits G: very light body, phenol in the foreground, lots of alcohol, younger than 15 years A: long and medicinal - fresh, becomes bitter + H2O: more alcohol, not desirable

No comparison to the non-smoking version of 2016 # 65104

    Deep golden color

Fantastic nose,  balanced, fruity with a touch of peat, smoked lemon.

Nice balance in the mouth, even that reduced, it's still enough power. Peatier than on the nose. Kiwi notes.

Finish is wonderful, silky, complex, straight, adjusted.

a L8 161 bottle code here, Wow, this is a hell of a batch.

    • Nose
Smoky salt air, dusty oak, vanilla and fruit - very lively and youthful.
    • Taste
It tastes immediately the young age, although this is already much better than the 10 year old. Sweet smoke and salt in interaction with vanilla, pepper, oak and unripe fruits.
    • Finish
Long and dry with a lot of acidity and a bit of bitterness.

    Laphroaig Tasting Notes:

    Colour:  Bright gold

Nose:   Mild versus the 10 Years Old, soft smoke, pleasant sweet, like new hay

    Body:   Full bodied, smooth

Taste:  Lively oak sweetness, warm peat smoke, fresh nutmeg and toasted almonds. Faint salt

    Finish: Prolonged, mellow

    Serge Valentin

    Laphroaig 15 yo (43%, OB, Bottled +/- 2006)

The 15 has always been a controversial version but I always liked its extra-subtlety.

Nose: okay, these new badges seem to be a bit rougher than the older ones, closer to the 10. More coastal and peaty but also more caramelly. Smoked cake? Notes of kumquats, citrons, raw ginger… Salsify? Quite different from both the older 15 and the current 10, in fact. Superb notes of grapefruits.

Mouth: oh yes, it’s much more complex than the 10. Lots of dried citrus fruits, oysters, salt… Excellent, bolder than the earlier versions. Lots of oomph.

    90 points.

Laphroaig 15-year-old, 43 vol from Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion (4th edition)

    Colour: pale amber.

    Nose: phenol, tar, sulphur.

Body: medium to full, with a soothing oiliness.

Palate: a deceptive moment of sweetness and grassiness, then an explosion of sulphur, burning peat, and Islay intensity.

    Finish: round, dry, long, warming.

    Score: 89

I gather this is the boxed version (as opposed to the one in tubes). I had one from around 2004/2005 and scored it 89.
