[November, 2015]  I had this dram during an "30+ years" tasting at Bonn.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 90.  Unfortunately I took no detailed notes (pls. see my detailed review below).

Far less complex, less fruity and more oaky than other 70's Glenglassaughs I have tried. Yes, there are definitely floral, honeyed notes on the nose (which is better than the palate) and some honey and mirabelles on the palate. Becomes herbal with time in the glass. But oak takes over, and it is really quite bitter and drying at the finish. Despite the low strength, a little better with water.

I did not bother trying this with water its only 43.1% and I felt water was not needed.
It was too thin on the palate and a bit one dimensional for my tastes. Out of 100 I woul give it no more than 80.
Not tried too many Glenglassaugh but I would not buy a bottle of this on the strength of this sample.
I would like to get the first glass out of a new bottle to re try and compare
    • Nose
       (sample) Oranges, honey,menthol.
    • Taste
A little thin, cough syrup, sweet toffee, honey again, slightly bitter aftertaste.
    • Finish
      Medium, warming.

    Single whiskybase sample.
    • Nose
Starts off quite unlikely - a mixture of pollen, flowers, and something like cooked veg - swede? Settles down after a while and becomes mostly about wax, honey and peaches, nectarines and pineapple. Also hay and dried flowers. Some faint smoke. After 40+ mins it turns even more beehivy and oily, which is great.
    • Taste
Quite light and a little flat. Honey, good mead. Some fruit. A little metallic/bitter, which is frustrating. Nice amount of oak spice. A bit of a let down compared to the nose.
    • Finish
Medium at best. Oak spice and same metallic note.

    Glenglassaugh 40 yo 1972 (43,1%, C&S Dram Exceptional 2013, refill sherry butt, 300 btl.)
Nose: starts rather disappointingly on grains and muesli but opens up nicely. Mirabelles, green mango, lots of mandarins and lemons. A bit of floral honey and dried flowers. Candied ginger. Typical waxy notes as well: polished oak, pollen. It’s a mix of Caperdonich 1972 (though more floral) with a subdued hint of Clynelish. Mouth: half fruity, half oaky. Apricots, pineapples, oranges, sprinkled with honey but also with a more mineral waxy note. Together with a peppery kick this leaves a rather oaky impression. Almonds and vanilla cream. Subtle warmer sherry notes towards the end. Finish: decent length, with the fruits starting to fade and the oak spices growing stronger.
Maybe not a total stunner like #2896 but a very fine, typical waxy Glenglassaugh nonetheless. Still available in Germany for around € 385.

Nothing spectacular. Quite simply knitted and quite expensive (about 385 €). Tip: Give him time in the glass (about 1/2 hour), then it will be fruity.
    • Nose
Very fresh and light. At the beginning, a slight acidity is felt. Then follow green apples, pears and a little vanilla. Removes cherry juice.
    • Taste
Warm and creamy mouthfeel with a slight sherry sweetness. It takes a few seconds, then the wood takes over something (really only something). In the background you will find a fruitiness with fruit acid and very little salt. The fruit then slowly comes to the fore, in the style of apple wine gummies with salt edge.
    • Finish
The finish is medium length with the slightest bitterness and green or immature fruits.

  27. Sonett scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Surprisingly vague nose but there are Hay, Vanilla, Honey and Lemon peel
    • Taste
A sweet entry with mainly vanilla, then turning to very mild spices and agan turning to oak and a light bitterness
    • Finish
Sort to medium with oak and mild bitter almonds

  28. tomy63 scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

Note: 91/100 . Very good start, then it lacks a bit of scale and length to be a real slaughter.
    • Nose
very expressive, lots of wax, pollen, honey, very Caperdo 72 or Clynelish, full of fresh fruits (apricot, mirabelle, mango, lemon ...) Very nice nose, close to the best Glenglassaugh 72 selected by Andrea Caminecci a priori.
    • Taste
powerful enough for 43.1%, very nice attack, full of wax, honey and fresh fruit, but we want it to last longer. It may be missing a few degrees.
    • Finish
good length, light woody, spices, the fruitiness is less exuberant.
