Whisky Reviews for Glendronach 1993

- A different side to GlenDronach, not your 1993. Definitely a must try.
Not what I expected, its soft and fruity, it's definitely sherry but not overly powerful. This is bramble jam, blackberries, black currants, all those dark summer fruits mashed, a compote. Liquorice notes coming into play, is that even a touch of absinthe I detect?
Big and spicy, ginger snaps coated in chocolate. The jam from the nose appears, touches of tobacco and leather, so GlenDronach. A lot softer than most 1993 palates, juicy orange notes, mandarins and tangerines.
Burnt sugar, caramel and a touch of sweet toffee, some of that tobacco and soft oak. Long.
- Very complex and balanced, smooth and creamy, no faulty notes, very drinkable and enjoyable - same level as my favorite cask 101 - fantastic!
Heavy, meaty sherry notes, ham and bacon, nuts, dried fruits, nutmeg, toffee, milk chocolate, plums, dates, figs, hints of acacia honey - excellent!
Oily, creamy, liquorice, fruity, more dried fruits, more spices, more toffee, more nutty, coffee liqueur, subtle sweetness, more sherry wood, more meat and ham - great!
Long, warm, little more woody but not drying
- These Jan 15 1993 oloroso's (low cask numbers) are definitely the ones to watch out for ...
- This release came without a tube or box
Glendronach 20 yo 1993/2013 (52,6%, OB for The Whisky Fair, oloroso sherry butt, cask #13, 668 bottles) Colour: deep amber. Nose: yes. A blend of the best rums (Jamaica and Guyana) with the best armagnacs. Everything is perfect, it's a Rolls-Royce cruising at 90 kmph. I feel I don't need to add anything. Let's move on. Mouth: there are a few pencil shavings coming through, it feels a little more 'engineered' than on the nose, but it remains very excellent. Bags of toffee. Love the notes of freshly squeezed oranges. Finish: long and spicier. Nutmeg first, then cinnamon. Oh, and ginger. Comments: feels a bit like a finishing at times, but quality's high. Extremely high. SGP:561 - 90 points.
