    On the nose, it is very fragrant with a floral, fruity, mildew and woody side!
    On the palate, it is the strong point, deluge of varied and well-differentiated scents, on the ripe fruit (blackcurrant, cooked raspberry), on the pronounced spices, on the chocolate, the leather a little dirty, on the sodden wood, and on dried fruits (also moldy, dusty) in return!
    In the final, it dilutes a bit, it requires to return.
    A dram of a very good quality, reminiscent somewhere of the old grains of old age with their lot of old leather, old wood and old dust!

    Glen Garioch 1999/2013 Oloroso Sherry Casks Batch no. 30 56.3% WID: 45341 (Pure) The nose announces dream fabric: first dates, raisins and sulfur. I imagine a syrupy mouth feeling. In the background are oranges. The nose becomes drier and a bit dusty. Maybe some leather or tobacco.
    Taste: The sweet and strong onset confirms my anticipation of a syrupy malt. Nose and taste blend well, although I do not taste sulfur.
    It has a sweet and fruity finish , which is slightly peppery and woody. He takes my tongue for a very long time with nutmeg and does not get bitter, but the tongue dries out a bit.
    All in all, great stuff that is pure drinkable pure. Without a direct comparison, I put it somewhere between Glendronach Revival and Deanston 20 Oloroso. Maybe some would say, a newfangled sherry whisky. For under 80 euros thanks to over 50% for me a good PLV. Thanks to CùBòcan for the sample. 88P +

      Dry sherry, vanilla, tree resin, fir honey. Nut butters. Wild mint. Overripe banana, cherries and cocoa powder.

      Cherries, orange marmalade, some pepper. Dark chocolate and sweet honey. Medium.

      dried cherries, sulphurous, intense, slightly acidic, cucumber water with herbs, the cherries are now covered with chocolate, mmh I like this nose,

      the mouth fits exactly to the nose All notes are here again, slightly sparkling Sulfur-dried cherry, chocolate, apart and very tasty
    • Finish
      medium-length cherry chocolate with oak, light acidity, herbs, here are the notes of the nose and mouth

    A memorable malt moment for me. Rather unusual and thought-provoking. “How did those flavors and aromas get in here?”
    It could be me, but if it’s not, then this might be very divisive malt
    whisky and in my case, it grows on me by the sip. Well done Glen
    Garioch! Will certainly seek more of your stuff.
    • Nose
      Unusual. A muddy AK-47 that was just fired? Sulfur candles burning from
      within a damp earthen burrow? I have to apologize for my outlandish
      associations, but I have never nosed something like this before. Bags of
      nutmeg and roasted walnuts. Incinerated softwood sawdust. Becomes
      better and better by the minute, after it has some time to air out the
      odd gunpowder notes. Typical sherry aromas, like dried fruit and berries
      arrive quite late to the party. Water helps though. As I said; unusual.
    • Taste
      Retains some of its aromatic uniqueness on the palate. The odd
      gunpowder turns into a perfumy and syrupy-sweet oakiness – almost smoky.
      Fresh mushrooms and soggy forest soil.
    • Finish
      Medium-long. It departs in a more classic fashion with licorice, menthol, and dark chocolate.

    Outstanding
    Highlander as far as I am concerned.
    • Nose
      The aromatic nose
      offers red berries, salted caramel butter and plums. Some toffee and citrus.
      Chestnuts. Halfway through some hazelnuts and loads of mint kick in. Dried
      grass. Hints of pepper and some cinnamon. Parsnip! Creamy and full.
    • Taste
      This is a kick to the
      teeth. Hot and spicy. The sherry is more dominant than on the nose with the
      usual suspects: plums, sultanas, figs, dades. Maple syrup. Caramelized oranges.
      Stew of fruit. Honey. Loads of ginger and pepper, now. Mint evolves towards
      menthol (yep, they are not the same). The palate fulfils the promise of the
      nose and then some.
    • Finish
      The long and spicy
      finish offers more oranges and liquorice.

    N: Punchy spirit in a rubbery [bourbon?] cask, with touches of coconut, banana and raisins.
    T: Subtly rubbery with raisins, it follows up with a tempered/controlled delivery. Is this bourbon or sherry maturation?
    F: It’s robust, simple and subtly salivating with a charred [sherry] cask finish.
    C: The label credits oloroso sherry casks, but I reckon there’s underlying bourbon activity, hence my issue with bottlers crediting only the finishing cask type - it makes buying bottles blind seriously problematic.

    Whiskyfun: It’s true that Glen Garioch and sherry have had a long and fruitful relationship, who doesn’t remember those magnificent official 1968s? Colour: amber. Nose: a touch of sulphur at first (gas, chalk, struck matches) but oranges and drier raisins are soon to join in, together with some sweeter whiffs of cigars and raw chocolate. Some chicory too, old walnuts, Ovaltine, perhaps a pinhead of Marmite, and the loveliest black pipe tobacco. Tends to become fantastic once you got past the sulphury arrival. With water: no more sulphur, rather a large bag of oranges of all kinds. Mouth (neat): really very good. Some very malty oloroso (almost more oloroso that tastes of malt than the other way ‘round), cherry liqueur, cane syrup, chestnut honey, ginger cake, chocolate and coffee… It’s really very big and lovable, although just a tad fizzy at times (tonic water). With water: really a lot of tobacco and chocolate. Like if someone had dipped his cigars in Mexican chocolate sauce. Finish: long, chocolaty and pretty smoky. Burnt brownies. Comments: I find this big monster excellent, despite the sulphur that, having said that, was rather to be found in the nose. SGP:562 - 89 points. http://www.whiskyfun.com/

    Really delicious Sherrymalt. There is not much to complain about. I like it.
    • Nose
      Same amount of sherry. Red fruit jelly. Dried plums. Bread with fruits. In addition, some forest floor. Also roasted nuts are there. A cooling mint note is still coming.
    • Taste
      The red berry is now rather sour cherry juice. Now fruit tea with a lot of sugar candy. Cranberry. Little pencil. Then it gets drier and the oak makes itself felt. Cocoa.
    • Finish
      A little mushrooms. Trail mix. Somewhat moldy wood.
