- Not my style of whisky, but okay and probably a favourite for peat heads.
"Right in the face" peat together with lemon, liquorice, vanilla.
Coal, salt, lemon, burned wood.
Vanilla, liquorice, bonfire.
- Simple and efficient
Moderately intense on a fatty peat with tar and ashes. Some aromatic herbs and a little iodine and spray. Simple but pleasant.
Oily. A mixture of seawater and cigarette ash. In the middle of the mouth, tar (very precise), soot and medicinal peat very Laph. Rather monolithic but effective.
Very long, iodized and saline. Cold ashes and tar.
- Tasted at Malt Mongers Israel whisky club monthly meetup.Definitely an interesting dram, but not much of a monster.
Herbal peat. Mulch. Salt. Coal smoke. Lemon (from Caol Ila?) Honey. Linen.
Mineral peat. Ash. Char. Woodspice. Lemon. Salt.
Long. Peat. Salt. Lemon drops. Ash.
- Honestly, I would have expected even more smoke from the name Peat Monster. Especially the taste and finish is a pleasure.
The aroma starts with smoked meat, smoke and later turns towards biscuit, apple and perfume.
An interplay of bacon, brown sugar and sweet smoke.
A strong finish with coriander, ginger and a hint of salt. Over time, the departure becomes more and more massive, but remains balanced.
- Peaty, salty and briny. Some fresh fruits. Anis, lemon, wood spices. All through the event runs a distinct vanilla sweetness.
All above delivered in a very crisp way. Perhaps it is a bit young but it really doesn's matter here.
- Nose: All that you’d expect in terms of peat and smoke. Initially I thought this was a little bit creamier than the regular edition, but as it develops the citrus comes forth and sharpens things up a bit. Malty with some beautiful natural caramel notes. Oily and briny. Pepper. Kippers and capers. Aside from a little bit of lemon and orange there’s not a lot in the way of fruit here. If anything…granny smith apple.
Palate: Smoke and earthy peat. Lemon, salt and melted vanilla ice cream. Something kinda tart, tangy and zippy. Not sure what that is exactly, but it works a treat in opening up every sensor on the tongue. Pepper. Tar. Black candies…or almost (but not quite)salt licorice. Yeah…this is a little creamier than the standard edition. Knowing ahead of time that the mainIslay component in here is Caol Ila is entirely unnecessarily, as it’s nearly unmistakeable off the cuff.
Thoughts: Different, but I can’t say better or worse than its predecessor. No need to split hairs on marks then; let’s score it the same as the other. Another great whisky from Glaser and co.
- Very big peat on the nose but precise, liquorice, oyster shell, leather. With time and dilution of clementine and vanilla appear. Attack slightly vanilla, well punchy but without overflowing, beautiful covering texture. Very long finish on liquorice and a mix of earth and vanilla. Very good, very greedy.
- Nose: peat, tar. Palate: earthy peat, gentian, rather dry.
