Another solid release of a Talisker Distillers Edition. They’re all not far apart from each other but differ in nuances. This 2002 release offers great balance with cherries, raspberries, oranges mixed with chilipeper, some bonfire, salt and nice juicy caramel sweetness. Fine complexity for the price! Def a bang for your buck.

Still an excellent PGV. Always in the bar cabinet!
    • Nose

Sweet-fruity and at the same time pleasant mineral-smoky. Sea breeze, sherry, oily and waxy aromas. A touch of oak flavor.
    • Taste
      85 85
Again sherry-fruity, salty. Some fruit, salmiak, vanilla, smoky.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium. Some smoke, lots of fruit, some coffee.

    H2H with the 2005-2015 DE.

2002-2013: balance is the word here. A little more sherried notes, a little less peat and little more fruitiness.
2005-2015: a little more spiciness and peat and therefore a little more exciting.

Both are superb quality and the consistency is quite remarkable. The difference is subtle. Though I have a slight preference for the 2002. It just all seems to be there. Balanced, smooth, complete. The 2005 is a little more fierce.
    • Nose
Very pleasant nose. Well balanced. Fresh fruit, clear sherry influences but not to much of an in your face experience. Sweet and salty smells. The peat is quite subtle on the nose. It gets a little more freshness when a few drops of water are added.
    • Taste
Silky, almost waxy upon arrival. Soft, salty and gentle. Peat is more present now. Well matured. Really in harmony. The Talisker itself has quite an agressive character, I guess the finish did a splendid job on easing it down a bit and give it some more body and a gentle twist.
    • Finish
Long. Some pleasant spices appear like clove. Salty, smooth peat covers the mouth. It gives me oranges, seaweed and fruitcake. Slightly dry at the very end.

Nose: sweet, mineral, light peat smoke, a little sherry, fruity, some honey. Mouth: strong, salty, sooty peat smoke, oak. Departure: nutty, bitter-sweet with a nice helping of peat smoke. Less sherry than previous bottlings.

A delicious, round, consistent standard for a good price. If he had cask strength now and was not colored ...
    • Nose
Maritime smoke, dark fruit compote, caramelized pear, sweet and round, a harmonious uncomplicated nose ...
    • Taste
Also in the mouth as the first smoke, salty dark dried fruit as well as for the first time the taliskertische chili wort
    • Finish
Dry oak and the already recognizable Chilicatch in the mouth, medium long

N: Familiar intense Talisker nose, similar in characteristic to the 10 but beefier, less fruity but with a chocolate/cocoa syrup sweetness mixing with the floral notes. Perfumed [floral], maritime, herbal - sage again and chewed chewing gum. Musky dried burned orange and ginger. Sherry cask finish clearly evident on the nose and by the colour. Biscuit notes from the malt with oily briny peat. Overall - controlled
T: Intense, spicy, tequila arrival - sweetness comes through, then herbal sea notes, and a wood bitterness. Talisker zing throughout. Vanillas herald the finish.
F: Strong sweet bourbon notes arrives as the zing diminishes, integrally mixed with the wood spices and salty maritime notes. Becomes a little sickly. Citrus, coffee, toffee and cocoa. Wood spice chilli cocoa/chocolate finish with a hint of oily sea wood, with a little smoky charred bitter citrus wood. Oily, malty, citrus and cocoa.
C: Old Pulteney like, brutish in delivery and sophisticated in character. More refined than the standard 10 with slightly more intensity and a superb arrival. The most surprising thing is how bourbon like it is on the finish. Like the 10, theres a dense heaviness to the palate but this is slightly more restrained. Complex and refined, has the edge on the 10 but only just - they are similar.

    Scores a B+

Super delicious, I like to pour it myself again,
    • Nose
Get started right away, slightly dirty smoke, smoked bacon, nice sweetness, a note of wine is added, maritime, tobacco, salty milk chocolate, minimal citrus, warm red berries and cherries come through, slightly tangy sweetness, creamy, subtle mint
    • Taste
Creamy, sweet, effervescent, raspberries, smoke, also here slightly dirty, tasty, decent mouthfeel, a lot of milk chocolate, a little bacon, I like it a lot
    • Finish
Now the Talisker comes through, maritime, the chilli catch, nice heat on the tongue, fruity, fruit bowl, slightly dark

Smell: smell the dryness of cocoa powder, drink the smoothness of chocolate lava, chew the purple of raisin chocolate, but no one speaks. Anyone who is lonely, whoever is tolerant, must be so peaceful.

    drink:......

Feeling: Except for a little smoky body and only a hint of spicyness, there is no more modern Tesca in the body. The rest is full of bleak bitterness, which reminds me of the nineteenth century. Silently suffering from suffering and pain, Teska was on the sidelines.

Quite nice, a sweet version of the 10 with the edge taken down, not necessarily in a bad way.
    • Nose
      88 88
      Fruity, slight smoke, salted caramel.
    • Taste
      87 87
Dry but sweet, into wood, smoke, and spices.
    • Finish
      89 89
Long. Briny smoke with dry spice. Bit like coffee but not that flavor.
