Batch 7 - I prefer marginally. The nose starts on all sorts of sweet shop confectionery (inc cream soda shebert!) the sherry and peat are a little more assertive. Fruity, nice sweet oak, coal dust again, cold fire ash too. Quite nice mineral elements, some toffee and caramel. Iodine costal breeze with flicks of salt and lemon. A little bristly and spikey on the nose despite the lower abv.
Palate - this one builds in the mouth. The peat just gets bigger and grows. Sweet sour and bitter arrival - nice fleshy fruits but accompanied by wood and astringent herbs and spices. Cloves and ginger from the oak, plum and grape skins, some green tea soft tannins. Much prefer without water. The nose is sublime!

A very interesting whisky, a harmonious combination of light peat and raisin notes with fried notes in the aroma, resembles a lite version of young wine monsters from Brookladdy or a series of Red from Longrow with a subsequent bias in minerality.
    • Nose
Open, dry, first nose - ash, berry jam; light peat, fried potatoes, fried meat, animal fat, raisins, sweet wine notes, ash, a little carpentry workshop, thinner, fresh boards.
    • Taste
Thick, saturated, oak, sweet berry and creamy notes, ash, porto, peat, a little pepper, ginger, metallic and mineral shades.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, oak, mint, grain, light astringency of the bark, nuts, cocoa, increasing minerality.

The first glass I had from this bottle made me nervous, as it was all on cardboard and wet dogs... But after letting it sit for a week, it has really come around. A foundation of sweet vanilla with a nice combination of mineral and salty/savory notes. A little bit of rubber and cheese, with a hint of smoke on the finish. This is a rich, dense, and tasty whisky, and its reputation is deserved, in my opinion. Springbank, Springbank-- drink it up; yum!

    • Nose
nice combination of sweet peat, oak, citrus and a hint of caramel. Sometimes I even smell a hint of egg, but not in a nasty way.
    • Taste
Nice, sweet and very well balanced. Oak, peaty, a light hint of sherry and shortbread. Overal a nice citrusy taste.
    • Finish
      Medium long finish, sweet.

Nose: The nose is excellent!! Fruit juice, apple, banana-cake, sweet oak, sweetshop, light sweet parfume, Hint of vanilla. With water everything gets 'thicker', more caramel and vanilla.

Initial taste: sweet stuff. Caramel, canned fruit, fudge toffee. Spices, herbal

    Body: medium. a little dry

Finish: medium-long Hint of peat, which is odd for Springbank. Sweetness prolonges. The peat is a duffer to me.

Price: very fair priced! Won't buy due to the finish.

Presentation: don't know this was a sample

    Comments: sample from Hvdree.

Ah Springbank. A large distillery that produces great whiskys.
    • Nose
The highlight of this whisky is its nose, so complex. Departure by an iodine breeze that tells us that the open sea is at hand. Smoke and kelp spikes (an Islay rather good boy). Finally, notes of bitter oranges and leather. Really, a very intriguing complexity and evolution.
    • Taste
Play between sweet notes of sweet coconut and salt spikes.
    • Finish
Sweet-salty medium length with a salty touch that extends.

  22. Bishlouk scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Much more sweet than batch 6. Smoother, too; less rustic. Less attractive, what.

(note made in the context of a face-to-face meeting between batches 6, 7, 8, and 10)
    • Nose
Lemon nose, raisins. A little honey. A light sea breeze and sweet cereals.
    • Taste
Sage and sweet, sweet. Very sweet, even. Disgusting limit. Some spices and caramelized raisins.
    • Finish
Average. A shy, spicy explosion. Warmth in the mouth. And always this impression of sweet liquor.

Very exciting malt. Win tremendously with a little water.
    • Nose
dark fruits, raisins and sweet caramel; the alcohol is not perceived, but after some waiting a very slight smoky spiciness (sea flavor?)
    • Taste
(With a few drops of water): fruity-sweet; Apple compote with spicy flavors (cinnamon?); slightly oily mouthfeel, very soft, nothing burns; later a little more herbaceous fruitiness, like coconut; Finally spicy oak with a hint of dark chocolate
    • Finish
Complex spices stay long and dry; later comes the oak.

  25. Ivynor scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Very satisfying, complex, rich, good value for money ..
    • Nose
First impression of fine whisky, creamy, on the baked cake, vanilla, a little sugar. With aeration, cut grass, green nuts, orange peel, a little cereal, peppermint. Second tasting after three-four months of aeration: lots of grapes, chocolate, quite fresh. A little lemon.
    • Taste
Rather thick, quite sweet (honey), with citrus scents, vanilla, dark chocolate. The end is more focused on wood and bitter herbs. With water, more creamy, woody, some acidic fruits (apricots, green plums). Second tasting: ultra easy, fat and greedy, on morello cherry, chocolate, fig and raisins
    • Finish
Long, on wood, honey, herbs, vanilla .. Some traces of smoke and earth. No more pepper on the end. Second tasting: long, sweet on wood and macerated grapes

    • Nose
A little suffers at first, it smells a little sherry and a lot of fruit
      very pleasant
    • Taste
mastered power, a little peat, quite syrupy
    • Finish
      average

With every new batch, more peat seems to sneak into this expression.
    • Nose
Pineapple, peach, red berries, sherry, caramel, vanilla, ash, mango, tangerine and a whiff of gunpowder.
    • Taste
Apricot, milk chocolate, sherry, peat ash, caramel, vanilla, cloves and eucalyptus.
    • Finish
      Caramel, ash, apricot and cloves.
