    Notes by producer;

    A beautiful marriage of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks, but the emphasis is very much on the smoky character.

    Cask details;
    A first-fill oloroso butt married with three bourbon barrels.

    Tasting Notes;

    Nose
    Medicinal, smoky aromas, with stewed fruit, charred oak and a mineral note.

    Palate
    The smoke and peat still takes charge, although there’s a little citrus and tropical fruit trying to get out. Characterful woodsmoke and coal take hold, as the fruit gradually emerges.

    Finish
    Perfectly balanced between the fruit and smoke.

    This is how I like my Laphroaigs. Powerful and balanced. Interesting and complex. These were some well selected casks and they have been well put together.

      This is full of smoked sherry. A classic example of how this should be: forceful, but balanced and complex. It is nutty, there is probably some tcp (I never smelled the actual stuff, but I could imagine is something like this), smoke, and bandages. It is rather chemical, which perfectly is in line with the bottle design. A hint of acetic acid, drops of lemon juice, some sun-heated sand, a whiff of chlorine or fluor, and burned apple pie in the background, and of course whiffs of sea air.

      Oh yes, the taste is very complex and the sherry is nicely integrated into the smoke and bandages. Wonderfully dirty with mud, scruffy roots, smoked raisins, and something like licking polished wood (I never did that, really). There are also several vegetables, difficult to pin down, but probably some cabbages. This keeps lingering on the tongue for a long time. Then come lots of liquorice roots. And almond paste, oh I like it. The one sherry cask must have been forceful for it to be contained by three bourbon equivalents, and still the sherry is sitting on the front row, no bourbon influence detectable.

      More of the above.

    Smoked meats, cherries, creamy vanilla, and some winey elements. Doesn't have your typical in-your-face phenolic Laphroaig smoke, probably drowned by a pretty active cask. A bit of a rough mouthfeel, and there's a bit of smoked meats. For those reasons, this is not a 90 points Laphroaig.

    What a pleasure this, whisky that continues to surprise the last nip. Everything comes along in both the smell, the taste and the finish. Peat, but with enough room for other flavors and flavors. There is always something new.
    • Nose
      Peat, creeping oil, BBQ smoke, cigar ash, caramel / toffee, some red fruit, cigarette smoke, later some soap, floral. There is always everything from the glass ...
    • Taste
      Somewhat salami-kick, liquorice, peppery, turf, leather. Then some toffee, sweet, honey, vanilla. Fruit too, fresh, apple. And chocolate suddenly comes through.
    • Finish
      Lightly peppery, long, peaty and fruit together. Sometimes suddenly a diesel-like taste that comes along in the aftertaste.

    Excellent; not very complex but terribly seductive and easily drinkable.
    • Nose
      Easy. Medicated, peaty, smoked and banana. Right now, it reminds me of red stripe but with more wood.
    • Taste
      Opulent, very smoky, very well controlled alcohol
    • Finish
      long on salt and smoke
