My first 1996 Vintage and I’m thoroughly surprised. Gorgeous nose, sweet desert-y palate, and an adequate finish. You have to like sweet and be able to stand some minor flintiness.
    • Nose
So sweet! Evaporated sugar floating over a sea of molten caramel. Reminds me somewhat of Benrinnes 1985. Rum-infused cherries, pickled pumpkin, juicy-sweet oranges. Darker and more savory notes are in the background – some mild form of sulfur, Asian fish sauce perhaps, salted licorice and chocolate at last.Sweet on the palate as well! The sulfur is there right away, but in an evanescent sort-of way. Cloyingly sweet PX, with all a ton of dates and figs and plums and some ginger as well. Herbal honey mixed with orange jam.

    • Finish
Medium-long. Artificial sweetener, herbal tea, menthol.

There are really very few Glendronach SC's that do not like me.

This one is definitely too one-dimensional for me. In addition, the vinegar-like note in the nose and on the palate is not my case.

I have had this dram a few months ago in my glass and my comments were much worse as the dram seemed for me very bitter. This is not the case. Maybe I had a bad day... An excellent dram that can be fully recommended.
    • Nose
Incredibly smooth smell. So many plums as you would be surrounded by a plum farm. Also sherry, sweet fruits and dark chocolate. The alcohol is not existing in the nose.
    • Taste
It is a bit of sherry a bit of plums a bit of nuts and a bit of chocolate. All in all it is a fruity sweet composite and makes a lot of fun in the mouth.
    • Finish
      Cocoa & chocolate wow nice...

I like violent oak notes very much, I also like extreme sherry bombs very much, but the vinous Nussigkeit in this case I just do not like it. With a little water, however, he is much more pleasing.
    • Nose
Pure: boah, very intense, PX pure, massive plum compote chocolate-syrup droning. In addition, a slightly sour nuttiness, very close to the real sherry. The alcohol can not penetrate here. Really vicious. Close to a while wet tobacco and decaying wood. With water: he opens something, even beautiful red fruits come up, the hearty sherry goes back. Better! More water does not change much anymore.
    • Taste
Pure: surprisingly sharp start, immediately this violent nut sherry note again. Then again tobacco and plum. Espresso. Then tannins are rolled along the cheeks, the tongue sticks to the palate, speaking is no more. Violently! With water: much more pleasant, here again a little pickled fruit, pear and chocolate apple. Here, too, he wins clearly. With more water, however, he loses again, goes back to the nutty.
    • Finish
Chocolate with 100% cocoa (is this something?), Old furniture, wood without end.

    • Nose
Fat and sweet sherry, dark fruits, raisins, dried fruit. Very typical Glendronach, as I love it. If you give him some time to breathe, you can also find a few herbs. The 53% Alk are covered for the most part.
    • Taste
hui, the alcohol is stronger than the nose suggests, it is clearly noticeable on the tip of the tongue. Dark, heavy fruits, sweet, very long and warm it pulls down the neck.

      With water:

The aroma in the nose does not change much.
But in taste he wins in my opinion clearly. Although still intense, but the burning at the first start is gone. The sweet and fatty sherry is now much more harmonious
    • Finish
The finish remains unchanged forever warm and long

The nose is great, in the mouth it is simple but intense and the finish pleasant but unspectacular
    • Nose
Full of sherry, dark fruits, you notice something the high alcohol content, rather spicy than sweet, leather, a small hint of sulfur, tobacco, very little chocolate, a little nutty, with water is a fresh citrus note, it is lighter overall
    • Taste
Wow, intense, light sulfur, eggs, nutty, dark fruits, raisins, plum jam
    • Finish
The nuts and fruits last the longest

http://www.weinkenner.de/2014/vier-1996er-malts-von-glendronach-im-direkten-vergleich-31860/ Color: Old Gold / Amber
Nose: Dull-sweet sherry and salty orange, typical tobacco and leather aromas and dried garden herbs (spicy Maggie herb). Gentle gum in a generally rather flat Glendronach nose.
Taste: Creamy and soft, dried herbs with tart notes and subtle honey. Then immediately the oak wood hits, more and more. With many smoky tannins it goes into the finish.
Finish: Medium long - woody-sweet with very, very bitter wood (too much for our taste)!
    83 points (nose: 87 / taste: 82 / finish: 79)
